You know, in civ 4 you can grow your cities past size 6 without an aqueduct.
I have to run.

I have a size 7 city!!! It's currently unhappy right now, but the gems will be mined next turn (the borders just popped this turn and there's 2 workers on it)

Doing some diplo today - I sent an email out to Locke
Quote:Hi Locke,
Thought I would check in - how is the anti-plako cooperation going? Heard anything from mackoti? We're getting pretty close to the deadline, right? Wasn't the original date to do it on t110?
So are you worried at all about how much this might benefit Lord Parkin? After all, he's just as high in score. True, he does have less cities but I think his cities are bigger. The downside to that is that if the rest of us close borders with both of them, then they'll probably just open borders with each other. Not sure what to do about that
Anyway hope to hear from you soon

Email to Lord Parkin
Quote:Hi LP,
Haven't seen you around much lately. I did see that you pinged me last night but I was already asleep (or not at my computer anyways). I had been meaning to email you for awhile, but just hadn't gotten around to it.
So what do you think of this whole anti-plako sentiment? My guess is that part of you would be for it, given that he's your top competition, but part of you is nervous about this, since you're trying to not broadcast the fact that YOU are the one in first place now :-). Setting a precedent of "close borders with the leader" is probably not one that you want to get started, right?
Frankly, we kind of feel the same way, given that we're probably the civ most susceptible to people closing borders, as you well know.
So, we'll be getting a Great Merchant in the next few turns from our build of GLH. We've discussed a few things for him but one of the things on the table is a trade mission. As the owner of the Temple of Artemis, we're definitely interested in talking with you, if that is the direction that we go. Is that something that you might be willing to do?
Hope to hear from you soon
I believe that it will be 700 gold in any city (that has a 2gpt trade route), or 900 in the ToA city. I'm willing to cut LP some of that extra 200 gold but figured I wouldn't start out with it

We got a reply from our email to WK and it was as we expected
Quote:Hah, your too paranoid.
Can you keep this message confidential? I'm going to declare on plako in a few turns when our NAP runs out. Feel free to join in if you want, I'm sure some aggressive Impi's will spice things up a bit.
If you don't feel like joining in, can you tell me where plako is going to settle, and what he's using as an escort? I don't have much map info around that area and I'd sure like to be able to "liberate" that settler from plako (if you know what I mean...).

My reply to WK
Quote:Nope, I will not keep this message confidential. I've already forwarded it to plako.
Okay not really ;-).
So it probably does not surprise you that a) we'd prefer that you win any type of conflict with plako, but also b) that we don't really want to unnecessarily honk plako off. So I'll give you everything I know, but I'd prefer that you not let plako know that I've done so. You have our graphs right? Our power is pretty low. We do have a few impis around, but most of them are just garrisoning at this point. I will talk to sunrise and see what he thinks - he's more of the military guy anyways.
But yesterday I did have a chat with plako. Here's the highlights
* He knows you have HBR as he's seen some of your Horse Archers
* He has line of sight on one of your cities and since he logs in very early on in the turn. You probably know the city I'm talking about - so if you're ever building something there you want hidden, you might want to make sure you are last / first to play a turn.
* He expects you to declare war soon.
* His city is going I believe W-SW of the cow tile SW of Bob's Fork - I've seen the settler
* He has a warrior that is already SE of Bob's Fork and heading towards you.
* He has an axe that is moving E near Bob's Fork
* He has a spear that is near the city site.
* I have 2 warriors keeping an eye on things currently - one SW and one SE of Bob's Fork.
* Did I tell you where your iron was? It's somewhat E of Mycenae. I can check the exact tile next time I'm in game if it would be useful.
How's that sound?

Email to Moogle
Quote:Hi Narcoleptic Moogle!
It's been awhile since we last talked, and I thought I would drop you a note.
I know we've been somewhat tangentially involved in the "anti-plako" discussions - do you think that will work? I'm worried that we'll still have a straggler that won't close borders, and then I worry too that we're just feeding Lord Parkin, who is right up there in score with plako. But oh well - we are willing to do it, even though closing borders is not really a precedent that I WANT to start, since we're the civ that's probably most susceptible to that kind of contact.
I did want to share with you some of the discussions Adlain and I have been having about settling rights over in our 3-way junction. He basically gave me all of your land, which I thought was awful nice of him ;-).
Have you had any talks with him at all? If not, I can share with you the city sites that he was looking to settle. I don't know his timing but I think that you are MUCH closer to that area so probably have a leg up on getting there first.
I also wanted to touch base on some of our talks of closer cooperation between our 2 nations. I didn't want you to think that just because I hadn't written that that meant that we weren't interested - I think that we very much are interested. Like you've said before, there's not a WHOLE lot that we can do currently but the time might not be too far off. Although we've all been very much in buildfest mode for most of the game (plako/WK and luddite/mackoti notwithstanding), I don't think that can or will last TOO much longer...
Let me know your thoughts

Okay I've been shamed into triple whipping a settler at Colerain so we will in fact have NO cities over size 6

Email back from Locke
Quote:I am not worried so much about Parkin. He has less cities and less food and less production and less military. His score is so high because he build two wonders (lots of score points) and get lots of land points from Stonehenge border expansion. He has never switch to Slavery the whole game. He built Ttemple of Artemis which is noob build. He has terrible civ traits (Chr/Ind). I think he is doing good only because he has ridiculous resource near him. Parkin has gold, silver, gems, ivory, and furs. And Chr happiness. We are not nearly so lucky. Had to build in tundra hellhole just to get furs and silver. Not sure why mapmaker give some teams luxuries and not others. plako is much more dangerous we think.
Others teams are not being helpful. They all dragging their feet on this. Adlain pretty much refuse to do anything. mackoti has never responded at all. Its very frustrating! Feels like most people dont give a crap at all. They just sitting around waiting to lose. Are you watching plako Demos? He is building a large army now. Very likely going to attack WarriorKnight soon. And we all sit doing nothing while he slowly wins.
I am trying to talk to teams but they are not helping back.
