Word on the street is that the outcome of this game is obvious. I kind of agree, but I enjoy it just as much nonetheless. We still have the pressure not to fuck up, like Kyan in PBEM12.
I wonder what the other players think and I wonder just how far we're ahead. We've had 3x the rival average GNP for a long time, that's bound to leave a trace.
I have to run.

Which streets have you been hanging around in? Ones where they use nasty swear words?
It has crossed my mind that there is a one-sided feel to this game. But it is ours to lose. We've got a long NAP with Ruff, though, which means they can't all pile in too easily.
So what can they do? Pegasus could try to absorb TT's land, and Ruff could go for ad hoc perhaps, with us helpless to stop them. But that would mean we could expand unhindered into the northern island, albeit we would be quite exposed across the coastline so would need solid coastal defence in the medium term.
At the moment, Pegasus will probably feel he is in touch based on number of cities - he hasn't settled for a while and so I might expect him to do so soon, although we're going to have 2 more cities soon enough. I don't think he is that far behind, but we have got financial teching well harnessed and we should get a decent tech lead from hereon in if left to do that.
I would be annoyed if people decided to award us the victory early, though. It's frustrating when people sign up to games only to look to quit or concede when it gets no fun for them. I know a big part of the enjoyment is the building up but what did they expect when they signed up?

Do you think Ruff will be able to maintain tech parity through espionage? If so, he might become a contender somewhere down the line? I don't hear the fat lady singing just yet.

Yes, good point. We can still get mangled by spies. Damn spies.

I'm not sure how to read the above
Regardless, damn you guys post a lot! I think i'd enjoy lurking or playing alongside you guys sometime though maybe that wouldn't work so well with my sporadic posting?
You seem to have played a fantastic game thus far so well done chaps.

Thanks for the interest, guys.
@zak: That's kind of Ruff's PBEM13 experiment so I hope he gets to see it through.
@Kyan: Fun ambiguity there, obviously you didn't fuck up. As for playing alongside us, well, there's PBEM17, right?
@Spaceman: Save is in.
I have to run.

I guess PBEM17's out, huh...
With two people (and, for a while, three) there is an emphasis on posting more to keep the other person up to speed so that they can step in and follow what's going on. And it's been fuelled by the boredom of just doing one PBEM and waiting for the turn.

I have to let novice take the credit. His microplanning first set up the Stonehenge/Oracle (+ Metal Casting -> Industrious forges) combo and then the seven-city Hanging Gardens boost. He's also been the driver behind the ultra-tight worker management (some of which has rubbed off on me) and efficient build queues. The rest is Financial + rivers. In short, we've utilised our traits well on a helpful map.

Haha no comment on PBEM17. We haven't met yet.
Normally, i'd have thought that both stonehenge and oracle early were bound to lead to falling behind but quite the opposite. Hmm, think i'm gonna have to go dig through the start of your thread again, maybe i can learn something

Yeah, it's been slightly counter-intuitive. We could have skipped Stonehenge, but the soon-to-be-born Great Prophet is going to net us Civil Service, and the border pops have been very useful. The Oracle was a marble/Industrious/tree-fuelled one-turn build for a solid payout.
I'd send you the microplans but I don't want to give you any hints for PBEM17...
