Fall From Heaven VII Organizing Thread

Hear me, mortals, and heed me well. Whispers of Gaming Need have found my ears, the currents of Noobiness flows through my veins with every beat of my heart and bears visions of misery and despair... ...As the Gamingness of man takes hold of him, darkness will start to engulf his world. At first he will see nothing, only a few of the most gifted will even sense the change. The world will go on as it has, for a time, but the seed of a new Fall from Heaven play-by-email has been sown...

In other words i've heard that a few people would like to start up a Noobs game of FFH2, so i've created this thread to see if there is any takers. It would be nice to have some veteran players to Ded. Lurk and assist us noobs with your gaming lore. bow I know a few people have expressed their interest.

So, any takers? Just post in the thread! don't worry, we're all noobs here. smile

I’d really like to play in this, but there’s no way I can consistently manage a turn every day, so I’ll enjoy lurking if it ever gets off the ground. With that caveat out of the way, feel free to pay no attention to what follows… :neenernee

The discussion in the “FFH for Dummies” thread was about setting up something with the explicit intention of introducing concepts and making FFH more accessible to beginners. On that assumption, here are my thoughts:
• I’m not convinced about using dedicated veteran lurkers in the usual way, as it will be so tempting to just “do what the experienced players says”. Neither side of that relationship will be particularly satisfying.
• That suggests one of two opposite tweaks. 1. Let the newbs play, but make the lurker thread really focus on discussing why certain play is good or bad and providing introductory level background; 2. Relax the lurker rules so that as much info and advice as possible can be offered in every thread (this will also encourage good reporting to get lots of help).
• Would there be merit in introducing some diplo restrictions, so that the focus is on the game mechanics, rather than gchat? Reading the threads for the other games, diplo can naturally introduce confusion into things like the best tech paths.
• It might be a good idea for somebody experienced to select the leaders as well as craft a map - this could sort out balance and cover as much of the depth of the mod as possible.

I much prefer option 2 in the second bullet, and the noob players should ask as many clarifying questions as possible, to build up knowledge of the game. To achieve something as a useful resource, the experienced non-players are going to have to be interested and committed.

If you’re just after a beginners’ game, then you can probably ignore most of this. There is a lot of good material out there already, particularly in PBEM1, but it would be nice to collect the basics together to help out people starting on the mod.

I wouldn't mind this, but we might want to see what the other players (if we get any!) think before deciding on this.

as for G-chat, i've never actually used that! lol

let's just see what everybody else thinks.

edit: ugh, just so you guys know, i have no idea how Mist's Tracker and so on works, so we may need a veteran to help out in this respect

I'd like to be a noob but I don't think I could give in the proper attention it would need until after exams (mid June) when I have 3 months off from uni for summer.

If it gets off before then, then I shall lurk & hope another comes along by then!
