Adv 8: Pholkhero's Prevenge!!

(the P is silent)

Well, I wasn’t going to play this game at all since I’d been on a France kick lately, (see my “Teers 02 game at CFC ~ kind of neat experience based on the “man in the iron mask”) and am Beret’ed out. However, after my thrashing in Adv7, my eventual thrashing in Epic3 due to my lack of military and Louis’ underhanded attacks ~ I needed revenge. So, a little warmongering for me was in order.

Here's a quick exec summary from work:

6 civs were eliminated = 6 points.

Early techs: mining>BW>pottery>myst>poly>Priest>AH
Builds: worker first>warrior>warrior(?)>settler

1280bc: oracle
700bc: Pyramids (didn't revolt until about 1000 years later)
125bc: Saladin done.
1370 ad: Mansa finally done.
1635 ad: Alex dead.
1735 ad: JC dead (courtesy of Hatty and my 7 gifted cavs)
~ 1850 ad: Isabella dead.
1884 ad: Bismarck dead
1900: declare on Mongolia
1904: Dom victory.

more complete report and screenies to come later today.

Okay, looking here at the start, i don't think there's any reason not to settle on the spot. Let's just get this party started!

I got 44g from the hut, and decide to go mining and then bronze working first to get some quick axes and hammer a neighbor. My first build is a worker. I want to get that Stone hooked up for the Pyramids and I also want to try to grab an Oracle Metal Casting sling for the cheap forges.

My exploring warrior pops another hut to the west and grab a map....less than optimal (certainly no Bronze Working!! lol )

3440:
Buddism FIDL.

3200:
Once BW comes in, i note with glee that there is copper in the BFC @ Paris, so I want to head for pottery to get some early cottages on the flood plains.

I found Orleans right to the east near the 2 gold and rice. It'll make a nice little production site:

2160:
I've been heading up to Priesthood to grab the Oracle, but unfortunately Hinduism FIDL a turn before me!

2000:

Found Mali’s border right nearby. Victim #1 hammer

1920:
priesthood in, ah started.

1680:
I need some commerce in this empire, and so my last city is placed:

1640:
I spy Sally’s border near Orleans.

With Arabia being so close, I figure that will be the better first target over Mansa. I plan on see-sawing back and forth to try and avoid huge maintenance costs from the "no razing" option.

1560:
Judaism FIDL and few turns later, Isabella calls me up:
I say yes to get some religion ~

1280:
Operaton Cheap Trick done:

Forges begun for extra hammers.

1040:
Paris finisheds up the forge, and i note that Pyramids would be done in only 13. I gotta try for that nod

I take OB w/everybody after I meet Liz.

700:
Paris completes another wonder:
Operation Stone Triangle is done, and I’m off on military for now.

475:
Code of Laws comes in and apparently i'm the first there:
Neat-o! It founds in Lyons.

375:

Moses is born in Paris. I merge him for now. I’m breaking even at 100% sci…that's pretty sweet ~ now, let’s get me some of that Sally!!

Well, the Great Hammering has begun!

275:Hah, on the first turn of the war, Liz dials me up, and wants me to cancel my "deals" with Alex. No thanks. I just don't like to do that w/o a compelling reason. I laugh her out of the throne room! [man i miss that feature frown ]

On the military front, I lose but one axe in the fray:

A few turns later:

I also move on to Mecca, lose 5 axes in the process, but I'm able to take the city. This pushes me over 1 Million peeps:

In 100 AD, the Hanging Gardens is built by me, but i'm not sure where confused
[Image: 1005ik.jpg]

175 AD, Damascus falls, and Sally is now an ex-parrot! Also, with more growth at home in Arabia, i get to 2 Million citizens.

325:
Shamefacedly, i must admit, it's taken me thousands of years to finally utilize the Pyramids rolleye AND REVOLT!!!

Here's an overview shot of my empire after the annexation of Arabia.
I'm in Representation now, but I'm still losing 1gpt @ 60%. I need to build and grow before we attack again. I set all my cities to grow at this point.

Zoraster is born a short time later, but i'm not sure what i've done with him ~ sometimes my notes are so detailed about pointless things, and sometimes they're painfully sparse!

Also, the Great Bumping-and-Grinding is working out well as France reaches 5 million souls:

I declared on Mansa in 700 ad, and, as I was the first to discover Music, I’m going to use the GA for Timbuktu.

940: Gao goes down.

1030:
after taking Walata, Gao and Timbuktu in succession, I make peace with Mansa for gold to build up my army a bit more before I finish him off.

1040:
The culture bomb is detonated; they're greeting us as liberators, and showering us with flowers and candy ~
[Image: 1040gw5lo.jpg]
:woohoo:

here's a culture map The Day After ™:

Okay, after a a little more than 10 turns: [Image: 11605jb.jpg]

Kumbi Saleh falls in 1210; Agwadusk falls next turn:

1240:
And Galileo builds an Academy in Paris.

1255: Liz and I finally get together for a little wine tasting and . . . flipping pennies?

Sweet, in 1350, we get all liberated and run naked in the streets:
This empowers the populace to finally realize that France is all one nation, and we shouldn't be running about, willy-nilly, in our birthday suits...it's clobberin' time!

In 1370, Mansa's last city falls and like that i've tripled my empire!! Note that both Arabia and Mali had more cities than i founded...sweet!!
