I had not realized HoMM6 was due out so soon. I am a bit behind on my gaming news.

dazedroyalty Wrote:I played 3 extensively when it was new. Didn't like 4 at all.

I played a huge number of games of 3, and also of the expansions. (And I had also played a large amount of 2, which was a fun game. 3 totally outclassed it, though.) And I agree about 4 -- the way they tried to add heroes as actual units did not work very well, among other issues. frown

dazedroyalty Wrote:5 was pretty decent though.

I never got far in 5, as my previous computer just couldn't handle the required load. I should dig it out now that I have a stronger machine, just have to remember where I put it. lol

dazedroyalty Wrote:I'm glad that they have said that HoMM6 is being designed to be playable even by people who don't have a brand new computer. That's no guarantee that it will be good, but it does mean they are thinking in the right direction!

This sounds like a good decision by the design team. Hopefully the new game will provide as much fun as 3 did -- that would be a huge success, at least from my point of view.

Don't really play that much anymore, but I just beat Planescape: Torment, which was a brilliant game. Just started on Deus Ex, which people say is fantastic as well.

Other than that it's just Civ 4 atm.

I've never played HoMM5 MP but i know it exists. If you ever decide to play it, let me know and we could try it out. 5 really has the same feel as 3 with updated graphics, basically. They went back to the old formula with heroes casting spells but not acting as units. They also returned to the classic 7 tier unit structure that didn't force you to choose between units like in HoMM4 -- which I hated as well. It really feels like a makeover for HoMM3. My old machine was never good enough to play large maps with lots of AI players, but I could run the campaigns well enough.

Ah, Deus Ex, I dig that one out every few years and give it a whirl. Last time out I tried the then current Revision Mod demo but aside from improved graphics there weren't many additions.

Looking around for the mod link I found this thread listing some more.

Would anyone be up for playing Dwarf Fortress?

Currently playing to a degree bordering on obsessive: Left 4 Dead(1), Crusader Kings.

Games I still play a lot of but can actually walk away from without having to be prised off the computer/ps3: Quake Live(2), Rock Band 3.

Bought it, played it, had fun & will return to occasionally: Gran Turismo 5, Torchlight, Lara Croft & The Guardian of Light(3).

Bought it, played it, rather wish I'd saved the money: Civ V, L4D 2(4).

Might pick it up cheap coz I'm reading about it round here: Civ IV BtS(5) lol, whichever that football management sim is if I keep finding the SG interesting to read

On the radar for the future: Portal 2(6), Crusader Kings II, Rage, Diablo 3

Bit concerned by how many sequels I've got in my "on the radar" section, particularly after Civ V.

-------

Footnotes, coz brevity is not my strong point rolleye

1. over 1000hrs logged and steam didn't start tracking that stat till 6 months after the game was released yikes
2. Quake 4 was better, imo, but if you like busy FFA games you gotta go where there's people playing
3. If you think you might like a 2 player co-op isometric puzzly platformery hack'n'slash game, I'd recommend this highly - only local co-op on the PS3 tho, not sure if there's also online co-op on steam/xbox.
4. Mostly coz one of my teammates for l4d hated the sequel with a passion, but equally I could never come up with a good reason why he should change his mind. And I look askance at some of the gameplay changes and additions - maybe 8hrs isn't a long enough chance to give it, but it felt a bit gimmicky & dumbed down.
5. Yeah, I know. But I burnt out on Civ IV around about when Warlords came out and only found my way back to RB when Civ V was announced at which point it seemed silly to buy an expansion for a game that was about to be replaced rolleye
6. For co-op, mostly. And yes, I know it's already out but neither of us is quite at "need a new game" point.

Aside from Civ 4? Well, there's the Crusader Kings SG. smile I tried starting a solo game, but the SG has been far more enjoyable so i's on hold for now. I finished the single player mode of Portal 2 yesterday which was great fun and I'm currently trying to persuade a friend to give the co-op mode a try.

I started Dragon Age 2 since I enjoyed the original, but it's been dumbed down quite a bit and turned into another backburner project that I invest some time in every now and then. (It actually makes me worry that Mass Effect 3 will be a disappointment too.. I'll probably hold off this one for a bit and see what others think.)

Right now I'm mostly looking forward to the new Deus Ex game and Diablo 3 (and maybe ME3, see above). That's still some time away, but at least the lull gives lots of reason to go out and enjoy the summer. smile
