RBPBEM FfH V [SPOILERS] Sareln of the Amurites

You handled it as good as it could be handled. I don't think the diplo was bad either, if he really got the Sons of Inferno you become his biggest threat due to ability to switch them off.

Funny that you should mention that, I just had a conversation with Iskender where we isolated the Clan's latest tech as Sailing...

Chat with Iskender:
Quote:(1:44:03 AM) Iskender: hey Sareln, got a minute?
(1:44:10 AM) Sareln: sure
(1:44:13 AM) Sareln: what's up?
(1:44:35 AM) Iskender: i've been trying to figure out what's Clan's recent discovered tech
(1:44:47 AM) Iskender: i ruled out BW and construction
(1:45:20 AM) Iskender: i can't verify if he's got archery, but it'd be easy for you
(1:45:34 AM) Sareln: how is it easier for me to tell?
(1:45:47 AM) Iskender: if you set your beaker output to +14
(1:45:59 AM) Sareln: ah
(1:46:03 AM) Sareln: booting up the game then...
(1:46:11 AM) Iskender: and set your research to archery and then check demographics
(1:46:35 AM) Iskender: and then switch the research to some tech noone has ie. necromancy
(1:47:10 AM) Iskender: if gnp shown in demos is 1 point higher for achery than for necro it means two players have archery
(1:47:29 AM) Iskender: i'm one, clan would be the other
(1:47:38 AM) Sareln: ah, I see
(1:47:43 AM) Sareln: well, let me run this experiment for you.
(1:49:28 AM) Iskender: you can see it working ie. for masonry
(1:49:56 AM) Sareln: it wasn't archery
(1:50:08 AM) Iskender: wow
(1:50:10 AM) Sareln: GNP doesn't budge
(1:50:21 AM) Iskender: does it change for masonry?
(1:50:25 AM) Sareln: yup
(1:50:30 AM) Iskender: well then
(1:50:39 AM) Iskender: looks like the clan discovered SAILING
(1:50:54 AM) Sareln: that actually makes a perverse amount of sense.
(1:51:03 AM) Iskender: sons of the inferno
(1:51:04 AM) Sareln: if he pulled a Fire Mage from Acheron's city
(1:51:07 AM) Sareln: yeah
(1:51:23 AM) Iskender: it's getting interesting
(1:52:05 AM) Sareln: yes
(1:52:24 AM) Iskender: at least he wont be able to immediately reinforce his troops with archers or bronze weapons
(1:52:39 AM) Sareln: yeah, he's parked his archers and a c2 warrior on a forested hill on my border
(1:52:47 AM) Sareln: they're just sitting there...
(1:52:51 AM) Sareln: have been for several turns now
(1:53:58 AM) Sareln: I haven't thought to question the blessing :P
(1:54:09 AM) Iskender: i guess enough bronze warriors would be able take them out but it seems he's bocking your copper
(1:54:21 AM) Sareln: I'm waiting for more workers
(1:54:24 AM) Sareln: he's not *on* the copper
(1:54:32 AM) Sareln: so there are some tricks still left to me
(1:54:41 AM) Sareln: I don't know why he isn't on it honestly...
(1:55:11 AM) Iskender: no tile defense i guess, he's afraid to lose the archers?
(1:55:25 AM) Sareln: he'd still have the river bonus
(1:55:33 AM) Sareln: that's nothing to sniff at...
(1:55:44 AM) Sareln: crossing the river would take a turn and give him plenty of warning...
(1:56:03 AM) Sareln: he may just be gunshy after losing the wolf-rider, but I doubt it.
(1:56:54 AM) Iskender: do you see if he has any coastal cities?
(1:57:14 AM) Sareln: not that I can see
(1:57:35 AM) Sareln: my scouting is still crap until I can get eyes out.
(1:58:02 AM) Iskender: yeah, eyes should see if he's build a galley
(2:02:27 AM) Iskender: ok, thanks for cooperating in C&D. i hope we could repeat it in the future
(2:02:36 AM) Sareln: sure, no problem.
(2:02:45 AM) Sareln: talk to you later Iskender, it's bedtime here I think... :D

YACWB: Discuss Clan gaining Sailing, he mentions there's a largish Island to the south and that he's got an NAP with the clan he can't discuss the details of. Apparently they extorted it from him with their wolf-rider a while back. alright

He plays the turn and comments on AC and GNP. Teases and encourages me to go Veil, I politely decline :P

Quote:(10:48:42 AM) Sareln: Clan just picked up sailing, probably to go pick up a Disciple/Son...
(10:48:51 AM) Sareln: they lack both BW and Archery right now though...
(10:49:06 AM) BobChllingsworth: sailing?
(10:49:09 AM) BobChllingsworth: aw crap
(10:49:19 AM) BobChllingsworth: they probably want to steal the island to our mutual south
(10:49:21 AM) BobChllingsworth: dammit
(10:50:20 AM) BobChllingsworth: also yeah maybe get a son of the inferno :P
(10:51:27 AM) BobChllingsworth: how'd you find out they have the tech?
(10:51:48 AM) Sareln: C&D
(10:51:59 AM) Sareln: more specifically twiddling my own research choices and demographics
(10:52:11 AM) Sareln: to see what the "met bonus" is for each tech.
(10:52:33 AM) Sareln: Clan points went up in isolation with other people's, so I'm able to check each tech in turn to see what it is...
(10:53:24 AM) BobChllingsworth: sigh.
(10:53:46 AM) BobChllingsworth: Well, I'd build an army and wail on them, but I can't
(10:53:51 AM) BobChllingsworth: hands are tied
(10:53:56 AM) Sareln: NAP until?
(10:53:59 AM) BobChllingsworth: can't say
(10:54:11 AM) Sareln: sigh :P
(10:54:14 AM) BobChllingsworth: wasn't my choice
(10:54:39 AM) Sareln: This what that wolf-rider was doing when he was poking around your lands?
(10:54:43 AM) Sareln: extorting deals?
(10:55:01 AM) BobChllingsworth: yeah
(10:55:10 AM) Sareln: fair 'nough
(10:55:21 AM) Sareln: that wolf-rider as tough, though was only C2 when he showed up
(10:55:33 AM) Sareln: killed a picket on his way in to get to C2/Shock
(10:55:51 AM) Sareln: got more XP somehow, I don't know how, not on my units anyways to go to C3/Shock
(10:56:00 AM) Sareln: then got mobbed to death by Angry Amurite Warriors...
(10:56:06 AM) Sareln: *as -> was
(10:59:29 AM) BobChllingsworth: grrrr losing the southern island is going to hurt, if he does take it
(10:59:50 AM) BobChllingsworth: was sort of counting on getting at least a city there, maybe more depending on size
(11:00:07 AM) BobChllingsworth: clan must have settling / nap arrangements with everyone if they're going to prioritize the water
(11:00:22 AM) BobChllingsworth: if I do lose those sites, I might have to kill someone frown
(11:00:42 AM) Sareln: umm, they don't have settling/NAP agreements with *me* :P
(11:00:57 AM) BobChllingsworth: well, see, that doesn't really matter ... :P
(11:01:00 AM) Sareln: I suppose open warfare is like a settling agreement...
(11:01:04 AM) Sareln: yes, I know...
(11:22:25 AM) BobChllingsworth: bwahaha
(11:22:28 AM) BobChllingsworth: go go AC
(11:22:38 AM) BobChllingsworth: also tops in gnp now
(11:22:40 AM) Sareln: weh?
(11:22:42 AM) BobChllingsworth: if only it weren't all culture
(11:22:46 AM) Sareln: 'gratz
(11:22:47 AM) Sareln: :P
(11:22:49 AM) BobChllingsworth: veil keeps spreading
(11:22:51 AM) Sareln: ah
(11:22:58 AM) Sareln: free beakers are free :P
(11:23:27 AM) BobChllingsworth: yeah, every spread gives me 1 free beaker in the city, 1 free culture, and 2 beakers at the Stigmata city
(11:23:29 AM) BobChllingsworth: I think, anyway
(11:23:46 AM) BobChllingsworth: btw you should totally adopt the veil
(11:23:53 AM) Sareln: sounds about right
(11:24:15 AM) Sareln: Dunno man, you may need to bribe me to do that... :P
(11:24:56 AM) BobChllingsworth: Hah. I hope someone does, anyway. I don't even intend to ever research CoS
(11:25:12 AM) BobChllingsworth: except maybe to make a play for the grimoire
(11:25:16 AM) Sareln: you'd just rake in the free research and call it good? :D
(11:25:28 AM) Sareln: hey, grimoire is amazing
(11:25:49 AM) BobChllingsworth: it is! but I don't have any use for the techs that lead to it...
(11:26:03 AM) BobChllingsworth: so I'd need something really good available for the payoff
(11:27:30 AM) Sareln: archmagi? :P
(11:27:45 AM) BobChllingsworth: probably...
(11:28:03 AM) BobChllingsworth: surely someone else will get the tech first tho.
(11:28:20 AM) Sareln: like, oh, say Serdoa? :P
(11:28:44 AM) BobChllingsworth: yeah, or maybe the dwarves
(11:29:01 AM) BobChllingsworth: or I guess anyone
(11:29:04 AM) BobChllingsworth: heh
(11:29:30 AM) BobChllingsworth: I want to many techs
(11:30:30 AM) BobChllingsworth: overlords for the overlords, fanatacism and priesthood for cultists and stygs, arcane for magic guys, econ for culture in case I want to try to win that way
(11:30:53 AM) BobChllingsworth: and that's ignoring mimics and the other cool toys I've probly never use
(11:31:13 AM) BobChllingsworth: actaully you and I likely will have similar tech paths
(11:31:37 AM) BobChllingsworth: unless you're really going to ignore super priests or something
(11:32:02 AM) Sareln: I'd ignore them if it'd let me kill the Clan in a reasonable time-frame to do so.
(11:32:09 AM) Sareln: I haven't crunched the numbers yet though...
(11:33:02 AM) BobChllingsworth: feudalism should be awesome for you too
(11:33:07 AM) BobChllingsworth: stoneskin royal guard!

Player Perspective, Turn 80

Tredje has units fortified on a hill where they threaten the copper tile. These units are effectively out of the fight until he brings something more meaningful into play. Talks with Iskender have suggested that Tredje has acquired sailing - Theory: to go retrieve Disciples of Acheron gained with his world spell. Sharing the sailing information with Bob reveals that there is a Balsareph - Clan NAP in place, terms unknown. Also reveals the fact that there is a substantial island across the way close to both Clan and Balsareph. Probably the land I see off the coast of Odio's Prison is part of that Island.

I need more data to formulate a long term plan. Should compose messages to both Square Leg and Serdoa. In the meantime, I need more map knowledge. Am teching Education right now, after Education, focus on Cartography to bargin some map trades and consider grabbing the pact if it's still available with my god-king capital. Post Cartography, backfill Animal Husbandry to reveal horses.

First adept will take metamagic 1 to solve the local data problem. Will lay improvements to emphasize commerce/production in Cevedes, and raw Production in Udenerat. 3rd city will replace the Barb city to grab wines and will be focused completely on commerce.

Current NAP with Iskender is signed until T100 with negotiations for renewal scheduled to begin on T85. I plan to extend the NAP, and talk with him about potential combined action against the Clan. Our talks have always been productive, and well, I'll take a friend at this point! Bob is isolated by his deals with the Clan. He's promised to not tell the terms of the deal, but I'll see If I can suss out an inference anyways.

Chat with Serdoa:
Quote:(12:21:33 PM) Sareln: How goes the PZ/Wood-Golem Scrum?
(12:22:08 PM) Serdoa: we decided to stop warring with each other and instead just hate each other wink
(12:23:29 PM) Sareln: Ah, that sounds reasonable.
(12:23:37 PM) Sareln: Tredje and I are reaching a similar point with the whole choking business...
(12:25:02 PM) Serdoa: yeah, sometimes it just doesn't make sense to go on with the war if actually anyone wants to have a chance to win - otherwise we simply can concede to Bob and his clowns.
(12:25:43 PM) Sareln: Makes sense.
(12:25:58 PM) Sareln: Bob apparently has an NAP in place with the clan right now, not allowed to say when it expires...
(12:25:59 PM) Sareln: annoying
(12:26:29 PM) Serdoa: sounds like he made sure that no easy dogpile can happen
(12:26:29 PM) Sareln: by annoying, I mean to me :P
(12:26:35 PM) Sareln: yeah
(12:26:44 PM) Sareln: (Clan) tech choices have been interesting
(12:26:49 PM) Sareln: hasn't grabbed BW or Archery
(12:26:52 PM) Sareln: but instead goes Sailing
(12:27:05 PM) Sareln: probably to cart a Disciple home or settle an Island...
(12:28:02 PM) Serdoa: I am not experienced enough in FFH2 to say anything about it, but it seems akward from what I know about the mod (and about our continent) - except for if he knows by his worldspell that there is another whole continent out there
(12:28:20 PM) Sareln: entirely possible.
(12:28:28 PM) Sareln: There seems to be bits of lands off the coast
(12:28:30 PM) Sareln: only 2 tiles or so
(12:28:36 PM) Sareln: you can see it with capital culture etc.
(12:28:58 PM) Sareln: Bob seemed to think there was land there, dunno how he scouted it (maybe popped a map from a hut?)
(12:30:06 PM) Serdoa: well, I have to get fishing anyway and then I can get as well Sailing afterwards and look for it. But with my teching "power" that will all take ages anyway.
(12:30:57 PM) Sareln: heh, yeah
(12:31:07 PM) Sareln: Iskender has been taking the opportunity to tech like mad it feels like
(12:31:09 PM) Sareln: he and Bob both
(12:31:19 PM) Sareln: whilst the rest of the world fights...
(12:33:20 PM) Sareln: oh well. If Tredje really is going to grab a disciple at least I've got a world spell... Take care Serdoa, ttyl.
(12:33:48 PM) Serdoa: you too sareln

Diplomacy:
Sareln Wrote:Hey Squareleg,

I feel like I'm finally stabilizing after the Clan Choke. I caught a lucky break a few turns back and managed to mob the wolf-rider to death with some warriors. Tredje has responded by pulling his gobbo archers and warrior back to the edge of my territory and teching Sailing instead of Bronze Working or Archery. This implies to me that he's either got a largish island to settle or wants to ship some Disciples of Acheron back from wherever Acheron is. How are your own fortunes faring against Serdoa?

I'm thinking of teching to Cartography in the near future. Would you be interested in exchanging maps once either of us has it?

-Sareln-

I figure those of us who are down should look out for one another...

YACWB: It seems like he's really pushing the idea that I should go veil. I'm not sold on it. RoK hasn't been founded yet, maybe I should grab that instead neh? I could always use the gold...

Quote:(4:43:23 PM) Sareln: how's Clownville today?
(4:43:35 PM) BobChllingsworth: it is okay
(4:44:00 PM) Sareln: not great?
(4:44:06 PM) BobChllingsworth: idk
(4:44:13 PM) BobChllingsworth: is #1 in every demographic good
(4:44:33 PM) Sareln: #1 in every demo when both your neighbors are otherwise occupied is pretty good I'd say...
(4:44:50 PM) BobChllingsworth: okay well I guess things are pretty good in clownville
(4:45:05 PM) BobChllingsworth: I have a lizardman bothering me
(4:45:09 PM) BobChllingsworth: it's pretty sad!
(4:45:31 PM) Sareln: :'(
(4:45:36 PM) BobChllingsworth: srsly
(4:45:58 PM) BobChllingsworth: how are things for your misbegotten wretches?
(4:46:15 PM) Sareln: Tredje is camped out on a hill, but isn't actively threatening anything.
(4:46:21 PM) Sareln: I get to have tile improvements again!
(4:46:23 PM) Sareln: it's so exciting :P
(4:47:17 PM) BobChllingsworth: I'm not so much convinced that my own play has been particularly good so much as everyone else is doing really poorly (except Iskender too I guess)
(4:47:23 PM) BobChllingsworth: not your or SL's fault, of course
(4:47:44 PM) BobChllingsworth: but my 5 cities aren't really all that exceptional for turn 82
(4:47:58 PM) Sareln: c'est la vie I suppose
(4:48:22 PM) BobChllingsworth: what's Iskender up to, anyway?
(4:48:33 PM) BobChllingsworth: I never talk to him, mostly I guess because there's nothing to say
(4:48:34 PM) Sareln: Teching like crraaazy
(4:48:48 PM) Sareln: Also teaching me tons of stuff about how to do C&D
(4:49:05 PM) BobChllingsworth: does he know all my secrets? :O
(4:49:11 PM) Sareln: No idea
(4:49:31 PM) Sareln: He's merely teaching techniques, not doing examples from this game...
(4:49:44 PM) BobChllingsworth: he's actually the real #1 in gnp by quite a large margin
(4:50:10 PM) Sareln: I figure that, he's got a river gold site available to him (dunno if he's settled it, but I would've if I were him!
(4:50:15 PM) BobChllingsworth: my cultural output is grotesque, but my beakers are rather sad
(4:50:18 PM) Sareln: heh
(4:50:24 PM) Sareln: Stigmata is helpful isn't it? :P
(4:50:38 PM) BobChllingsworth: most cities get over 7 culture a turn
(4:50:47 PM) BobChllingsworth: I wish they were getting that many beakers
(4:50:56 PM) BobChllingsworth: I need aristo farms badly
(4:51:07 PM) BobChllingsworth: thankfully not many turns off now...
(4:52:06 PM) BobChllingsworth: do you know what techs he has?
(4:52:22 PM) Sareln: At least Archery and Masonry
(4:52:49 PM) Sareln: Hey may have mentioned being in Aristocracy a while ago, but I don't recall
(4:52:57 PM) Sareln: That's something you can look up though no problem...
(4:53:03 PM) BobChllingsworth: he's been in aristocracy since turn 55
(4:53:38 PM) BobChllingsworth: I wonder what's up with archery
(4:53:47 PM) BobChllingsworth: HA?
(4:54:28 PM) Sareln: Perhaps
(4:54:39 PM) Sareln: alternativly, no copper...
(4:55:01 PM) BobChllingsworth: surely the map maker wouldn't be so cruel!
(4:57:03 PM) Sareln: eh, my copper I needed to reach for. It's most definitely mine though, no way for it to be construed as Iskender's...
(4:58:04 PM) Sareln: though my perception of reach might be warped by the need to defend everything I have from marauding Clanners...
(4:58:47 PM) BobChllingsworth: have you considered Hyborem?
(4:58:51 PM) BobChllingsworth: I mean that seriously
(4:59:03 PM) BobChllingsworth: you're in a tough spot to come back from
(4:59:13 PM) BobChllingsworth: and you got KotE early
(4:59:54 PM) BobChllingsworth: and I've made the Veil a little less attractive, so you might not have much competition getting to the Pact first
(5:00:03 PM) BobChllingsworth: especially if you can reach Serdoa
(5:01:01 PM) Sareln: I've thought about it, but right now "going Hyborem" and "doing anything else" look remarkably similar wink
(5:01:07 PM) Sareln: so I've put off the decision for now.
(5:02:02 PM) BobChllingsworth: Haha if I converted to the Veil now, by game rules I could start talking to Irgy
(5:02:23 PM) Sareln: heh
(5:02:24 PM) BobChllingsworth: "oh yeah, sorry we only started worshipping devils by accident"
(5:02:30 PM) Sareln: lol

YACWB: Puzzling out Iskender's motivations. No need to mention the longstanding deals that Iskender and I already have in place.
Quote:(10:32:42 AM) Sareln: heh
(10:32:50 AM) Sareln: everything should be in order now...
(10:33:23 AM) BobChllingsworth: "sedro" and SL made peace
(10:33:37 AM) Sareln: I wonder what the terms were...
(10:33:38 AM) BobChllingsworth: power graph shows that both have been running on military fumes for a while
(10:34:04 AM) BobChllingsworth: wonder why serdoa never followed up with reinforcements
(10:34:09 AM) BobChllingsworth: he could have broken SL's back
(10:34:40 AM) BobChllingsworth: instead he apparently just razed a city SL knew couldn't be defended and then wasted his army in phyrric victories
(10:34:54 AM) Sareln: yeah, normally German Killer Instinct can be counted on to do the job... perhaps he's Bavarian?
(10:34:58 AM) Sareln: :P
(10:35:05 AM) BobChllingsworth: Austrian, I think :P
(10:35:24 AM) Sareln: ah
(10:35:41 AM) BobChllingsworth: I guess THAT explains it!
(10:40:53 AM) Sareln: I'm so used to lazy elven workers on quick
(10:41:03 AM) Sareln: it's really only 2 worker turns to mine a hill?
(10:41:30 AM) BobChllingsworth: three
(10:41:39 AM) BobChllingsworth: I think
(10:41:41 AM) Sareln: ...
(10:41:43 AM) Sareln: oh right
(10:41:50 AM) Sareln: I think I got a turn of mining in on this hill during the choke
(10:42:07 AM) Sareln: I would basically scoot my worker out to do a turn here and there where the wolf-rider wasn't
(10:42:12 AM) Sareln: I guess I didn't record everything...
(10:42:40 AM) BobChllingsworth: did you get your adept out yet?
(10:42:49 AM) Sareln: not yet
(10:43:21 AM) BobChllingsworth: if the Clan really do have a Son of the Inferno, using haste to rush it with copper warriors might be your only hope
(10:43:34 AM) Sareln: It might just be a disciple
(10:43:39 AM) Sareln: and yeah, I get what you're saying there...
(10:44:33 AM) BobChllingsworth: heard anything about anyone else's religious plans?
(10:44:44 AM) Sareln: not a peep.
(10:44:50 AM) Sareln: this is a surprisingly low religious game
(10:45:02 AM) Sareln: though I suppose Dwarves got disrupted
(10:45:08 AM) Sareln: and Sheaim disrupted them
(10:45:11 AM) Sareln: and I got disrupted
(10:45:15 AM) Sareln: and the clan can't afford to tech it
(10:45:25 AM) Sareln: so really Iskender, why haven't you founded at least Runes yet... ? :P
(10:45:50 AM) BobChllingsworth: Hah. Yeah, Iskender is the one I'm kind of worried about
(10:45:54 AM) BobChllingsworth: stealing my faiths
(10:46:06 AM) Sareln: then go talk to him and work out a deal :P
(10:46:17 AM) Sareln: or is a catch-22
(10:46:30 AM) Sareln: you're hoping that if you don't mention it, it won't occur to him that there's competition for it...
(10:46:34 AM) BobChllingsworth: ayup
(10:47:42 AM) BobChllingsworth: also I think he belongs to the "reads way more into diplo then his partner in correspondence intended" club
(10:47:52 AM) Sareln: haha
(10:48:06 AM) Sareln: hopefully he hasn't drawn any bad inferences from the communications between me and him then
(10:48:18 AM) Sareln: though I suppose I'm very good at looking harmless at this point...
(10:48:19 AM) Sareln: :P
(10:49:04 AM) BobChllingsworth: heh heh, you should convince him to help you out vs. the orcs
(10:49:17 AM) BobChllingsworth: I of course have no ulterior motive in hoping he does
(10:49:46 AM) Sareln: no, none at all :P
(10:50:45 AM) BobChllingsworth: actually, have you asked if he would be willing to intervene?
(10:50:53 AM) BobChllingsworth: it would kind of help you too if he did
(10:51:02 AM) BobChllingsworth: and surely he wants exp for waning
(10:53:05 AM) Sareln: that got done ages ago...
(10:53:28 AM) Sareln: he decided that booming would buy him more in the long run. Can't really say that I disagree on that evaluation...
(10:54:35 AM) BobChllingsworth: maybe he'll change his mind once he gets assassins.
(10:54:49 AM) BobChllingsworth: surely he'll want them soon
(10:55:01 AM) Sareln: I think you underestimate just how much poisons tech costs...
(10:55:26 AM) BobChllingsworth: it's not that bad if you beeline it
(10:55:33 AM) BobChllingsworth: he does have the best econ right now
(10:56:12 AM) Sareln: on the same note though, wouldn't he be much better off if he used those self-same beakers and got currency, trade, etc?
(10:57:15 AM) BobChllingsworth: depends
(10:57:35 AM) BobChllingsworth: on a crowded map with backwards neighbors, netherblade could be very useful
(10:57:48 AM) BobChllingsworth: why wait for them to get units that can fight back?
(10:57:49 AM) BobChllingsworth: hmmmmm
(10:57:51 AM) BobChllingsworth: actually
(10:57:56 AM) BobChllingsworth: that might be what he's doing
(10:58:02 AM) BobChllingsworth: netherblade HA?
(10:58:04 AM) Sareln: Poisons: 1672 beakers...
(10:58:08 AM) Sareln: that'd be cool
(10:58:39 AM) Sareln: Currency: 940, Writing 396
(10:59:12 AM) Sareln: Trade: 470

Well done on lasting the choke! The sooner you get a chance to expand, the better for the world in my opinion! With the Sidar expanding like bunnies, someone has to take some land from them! smile

Tredje getting sailing means only one thing to me - the sons are on their way! I guess we will have to deal with that as and when they arrive. Bob has mentioned to me that there is and island to his south so maybe Acheron is off that way somewhere?

Things with the Sheaim trundle on although we seem to have reached an impass. I am in the very early stages of trying to hack out a pace deal but I don't know what will happen. I managed to survive the 10PZ's that he sent in the first place (I lost my mud golem and survived with 1 warrior on 0.1 health at my capital!!!!!) I may have to give in some concessions but I am hopeful of finding peace. We shall see.

As to the map trade - in principle I am very interested. If I trade maps with you, are you going to have traded with anyone else beforehand or do you propose to trade afterwards? I suppose that eventually we will all know the full map but I'd rather not be left in a situation where someone knows my map and I don't know theirs.

There are some clear benefits to a map trade so I'm certainly encouraging you to go for Cartography!

Cheers,

I think the ordering of map trades favoring the least over the most powerful goes something like this: Bob->Iskender->Serdoa->Squareleg with Tredje left out for the obvious reason (we're not dealing with him right now!)

The best way to order things is have it so that on one turn, I give everyone my map, and then on the next turn, everyone gives me theirs... now how to phrase such map deals in a way that others don't twig to that being what I'm doing. Or do I even care?

Squareleg and Serdoa have made peace. Sent this along:

Sareln Wrote:Squareleg,
Congratulations on reaching a peace deal. Hopefully it didn't cost you too much.
Map trade-wise, I was hoping to get in a trade with Bob as well (Iskender hasn't really been doing due diligence with scouting it feels like). I can try and get the deal with Bob to go through first, and that would protect your privacy. Does that sound reasonable?

Here's how I've decided I want to stack my map trades:

 1. Sareln <-> Serdoa (If Possible)
 2. Sareln <-> Bob
 3. Sareln <-> Iskender (Not Necessary)
 4. Sareln <-> Squareleg

If I could talk Serdoa into a map trade, I'd want to do that absolutely first, since he's the one most likely to have the most non-overlapping scouting information with my own.

Tredje's map is the most valuable, but I don't think I benefit from a peace deal yet. His troops are still costing him money and he probably won't disband them or go to full econ until our situation is resolved. I'll get my floating eyes adepts up and that'll clear things up a lot I think.

Tech path is Education -> Cartography -> Way of the Earthmother if RoK still hasn't dropped by then.
