don't want to be that guy, but am i the only one who thinks the hippus start is a bit food lacking? cow and wheat admittedly, but lots of plains

Hippus is weak, i agree. Add a few grassland over the plains to make it better.

Elohim will be sad. They're boxed near a tundra, with a goblin fort nearby, (defending against the good lands), and insane peak location if they want to expand right. Either take out the goblin fort, improve the tundra, or change a few peaks to grasslands. (or even two of them). (Not to mention they're too near the Grigori?).

Speaking of which, the Grigori land is full of Jungle. Given that you need BW to even hack off jungle... it's not looking pretty.

Sheaim almost have too much land to expand before they even meet the Hippus and Balseraphs.

With that said, Balseraphs are weak as well. Either they expand north into plains, or south into jungle, or west into desert... Either eliminate the jungle or make the contested lands between Hippus and Balseraphs better (But then they'll lose in an early war).

Might want to be careful with Acheron, they can almost lob fireballs past the sea.

Balseraphs have really hard to get horses.

Other then that... looks ok for now.

Last few things to add;
  • Balseraph get a seafood resource in the inland lake and easy closeby horses, change some jungle to forests
  • Elohim need boosting land slightly, move goblin fort, Add rivers
  • Hippus need some plains changed to grassland to solve food shortage
  • Grigori Need slight lessoning of Jungle
  • Sheaim have too much land. Perhaps lesson the island in the east to limit expansion only to the north and west. (Perhaps move Prye east)
  • Elves get the Corn moved closer

EDIT: The players have nearly picked play order so I should try and finish this today

Finished the last edits
  • Made sure to delete all the goblin archers and extra Brigit Units.
  • Elohim, In the west Got the gobiln fort moved, in the north some tundra improved and in the east a few peaks taken away
  • Balseraph got the fish in the lake and Horses in the BFC of Start, the jungle in the south was cleared half away
  • Grigori lost SOME of the jungle near the start, but as they have so many expansion options i didn't want it all to go.
  • Hippus got the plains to grassland edits seen above, along with the starting tile made into a Hill
  • Elves got the Corn moved closer
  • Sheaim got the south east part of their landmass cut of cutting off some of their expansion

The only starting picture that is now obsolete is the Hippus, which is good as they were the only ones yet to make a thread.

The New Starting shot for Hippus

I've included the Worldbuilder file but I can't think of anything else this needs. In retrospect: I don't think the starts are perfectly balanced. The map is a tad too big. I suppose it will cut down on struggles to obtain land but sometimes that's part of the fun. On this map the players won't start feeling cramped untill their 5th city. But these flaws can't be helped from a first time map maker and hopefully the flaws will make it more fun to play.

I think i still need to delete some of the nations Techs. When i started the game on Monarch i think all the AI (None Sheaim) players got gifted a free tech. But i can catch that when I edit the play order anyway.

Any last second words of caution from anyone?

Nah it's all right. As long as it's not too silly like a person getting 2 gold and the other getting 0, it should be ok. The starts do not need to be completely balanced, just balanced enough so that everyone has different options and unique starts they can utilize.

hmm ... can't decide which thread to follow ... it's now like watching a film, having read the book it's based on, i.e. seeing a character make an obvious mistake over and over again ... will have to bite my tongue and not pass comment on plays made knowing that they could have been so much better if only the player knew there's a better resource if they move 1, or 2, tiles further ... lol

might want to avoid Nicolae's if he's going to post further spoilers re PBEM18app .. could watch Kyan, but maybe I'd be more interested in Rawkking Goodguy's thread as it refers to Monty Python & The Holy Grail rolf
PBEM12 - Shaka of Inca [6/6*] PBEM18 (Apps) - Augustus of China [4/4*] PBEM31 - Hannibal of Greece [jnt2-4/5*] PBEM72 - Willem of Oranje - Dutch [3/4*] PBEM74A -Catherine of Babylon [4/4][*ended early]

Amelia what did I ever do to you? cry

I think there was a misunderstanding in here. I think Amelia completely forgot the existence of the elves, and that I'd be competing with them for land. Ravus took that and deleted even more of my (marshy, jungled, workerturn eating) land. And downgraded me even with no food.

I had to stop commenting in this game. I kept feeling like I was getting glared at whenever I posted frown

But yes, lots of mistakes were made. I should have kept the map shape but made identical starts and made LOTS of alterations.

Elohim: needed more rivers
Grigori: ?
Balseraphs: Needed less floodplains (and less luck with the RNG)
Hippus: Needed more rivers in retrospect
Elves: ?
Sheaim: Needed more (better) land and less jungle to the West to allow expansion into that passage early (should have just put jungle in the center around the world tree.

Mental experiment, what would happen if you moved Grigori and Clown starts much further south?

Apart from that in hindsight ( which is as usual wonderful thing )

Less hills around Elohim start

A land connection between Elohim and elves.

Smaller inner sea.

Less floodplains for the clowns.
