[SPOILERS] Lurker discussion thread ... players keep out obviously

Might as well get the ball rolling here

Still can't decide which thread to lurk, so I'm dipping into all of them [with the notable exception of the Sheaim, in case Nicolae let's slip any more PBEM18 spoilers! duh So if someone could keep us all posted on what's going on in there, that would be great] and refraining from commenting in case I, inadvertently, give any map information away ... why did I have to try & be helpful bang

The Balseraph team just meta-gamed that they should pursue Animal Husbandry because they should have a Horse in their BFC... They DO! But i only put it there last second because the map checkers said the area wasn't balanced grrr.

Oh well. With the Continent basically in 3 parts with each duo close to each other their should be some Diplo soon.

Map layout:
Elohim -- Hippus -- Ljosalfer
Grigori -- Balseraph -- Sheaim

EDIT: I'm thinking this lurker thread will be one of the smallest from the sheer amount of Vet/Ded Lurkers. Oh well.

Hence why I'm trying to refrain from commenting in any thread in case I let slip something ... for the record, I don't think I mentioned putting either Horse or Copper in the Balseraph's BFC ... nor did I say to put Fish in the freshwater lake near them, only Crabs or Clams ... but I did muse that Kyan would make good what, at first, still seemed a bad start tongue

Sadly, yes, I really need someone to report back from Nicolae's thread though. I can't lurk it in case he explicitly refers to PBEM18app game, i.e. not hide it in a spoiler cry

This is where Mr Nicolea decided to found his city. His start seems to have focused him and his Vets on emphasising a BW rush tech wise... which could be very bad for the elves in the north.

Of course I think Treants beat Flaming Zombies but it would still be an epic battle and could probably be close...

It all depends on speed. You need Way of the Forest for the March. Which is not cheap and requires equally expensive Hunting. Now if I was to time a nearly straight BW beeline ( powered by 2 wineries ) vs semi-focused path to leaves I wouldn't be so sure there will be any treants to oppose PZs.

What will kill any non-horse rush on this map is not strength of the opposition, but sheer distance between borders. And possibly roving bears lol

My best count at this moment in 11 tiles from capital of sheaim to the capital of the elfs

So Mist how bad would the bears and other barbs be for that distance

When i made the map i thought that the closeness to each duo would at least allow some diplo while still being far enough away to prompt expansion over rushing...

I guess i didn't anticipate the bloody thirsty aggression in the air. The Hippus are allready planning a war and the Elves have anticipated having the Sheaim as their border buddy.

In retrospect do you think the duo's should have been further away or have more difficulty getting contact?

Bobchillingworth was uncanny in his prediction of Horses, eh? But he's not the only one ... anyone noticed the remarkably accurate leaps of imagination by Gaspar?

He's obsessed by the Sheaim:

Gaspar Wrote:I meant what I said about Sheaim - someone has to kill them before they get all their toys. If my scout runs into their borders in the next 10 turns

Gaspar Wrote:Let's say however, that diplomacy fails, and you have a stack of Pyre Zombies (or HAs, but we'll stick with PZ's, since there are better reasons for a Sheaim player to rush me than for the Hippus player. The Hippus player would be smarter to attack the Balseraphs or Grigori) on your borders.

...

So it seems to me that basically beelining Way of the Forests is our only reasonable non-diplomatic solution to a PZ invasion. But gentlemen, I'd love to hear an alternative. I'd also be interested in an early rush attack plan, if we happen to find them close before they have PZs. nod

Future installments of this series will delve into ways of countering threats posed by other civilizations.

Why bother Gaspar ... if your uncanny predictions are correct, you only need to counter 2 other players rolf

And on the Balseraph start:

Gaspar Wrote:Re: the 6 MFG, I'd pretty much take to the bank its forested plains marble or ivory plus plains hill plant. Pretty clear once you reminded me of the palace hammer. I highly doubt Ravus would let someone get the RoP at their capital. That's way too good.

He does fall short of pointing the finger at Kyan though.

I'm intrigued what other "divine revelations" he'll continue to have lol
