Commodore Wrote:Next up is to agree on settings, I reckon. These are just my preferences, everyone has a vote.
For my votes:
Barbs? Yes
NTT is agreed.
CTON? No, just no diplo before contact.
War Elephants? No
Random events/huts? No.
Speed? Quick

These seem like reasonable settings to me, too, although I'm going to put in a vote for turning huts on, just for fun.
so,
For my votes:
Barbs? Yes
NTT is agreed.
CTON? No, just no diplo before contact.
War Elephants? No
Random events/huts? Yes
Speed? Quick

Another thing on the negotiation front...
Screenshot trading before map trading? No
(flavor reasons, but it feels like it follows from no diplo before contact)

As for time zone, I'm US Pacific, and I'd prefer to play in the evening. That's GMT-8 (-7 summer, like now) and local time 8-11pm (conservatively; I actually try to get home around 7pm) makes for 4-7am GMT (3-6am summertime).

EDIT: Difficulty of Noble or Prince sounds good to me, too, although, at least it doesn't affect the cheatingness of the AI when there isn't one, aside from barbarians.

Re: other settings: Prince, no active espionage. Noble, IMO, just neerfs Org and Chm too deeply into the ground.

I'm CST (GMT-6) so evenings I'm able to play 0100 to 0500 GMT.

Bolded part is not true. It does affect tech costs, though.

I would recommend going with Prince if you have a toroidal wrap, otherwise go with Monarch.

Also, if I was picking, I would want to know the map wrap/difficulty combo before picking because it affects maintenance, which can affect the value of certain traits.

Hmmm, I was sure happiness cap was lower on Monarch than on Noble/Prince... but I was wrong, my bad

I'd like to talk about the game speed, looks like we're 2-2 between Quick and Normal at the moment. I have virtually no experience with Quick, but as far as I understand, the faster the speed, the higher the cost of every mistake; every micro mismanagement, every lost worker turn, every whip at the wrong time would be a much bigger issue on Quick. For this reason, I would feel much more comfortable with Normal speed. Of course, if you feel strongly about Quick, then it's ok... but I don't see why Quick would be more enjoyable. Maybe I'm missing something

Normal is a really bad choice for PBEMs. You don't realize how slow the game will go at a turn per day until you've done it. I had never played on Quick before PBEM11, but I am so glad we didn't play on Normal.

It was in vanilla Civ. BTS made the starting happy cap 4 on every difficulty (then +1 for the Palace.)

Thanks. Wouldn't like that kind of game personally.

I prefer to play:

*without barbs
*without huts/random events
*ban WE and active espionage

Regarding the rest, i'm okay with everything. I'd just like to know the settings before making my picks!

Okay, looks like we have:

Play time:
Yuris 1800-0000 GMT
Commodore 0100-0500 GMT
MNG 0300-0600 GMT
Ranamar 0400-0700 GMT

Does that make sense to everyone as the order so far?

Barbs? Yes (Commodore, MNG, yuris, Ranamar); No (Ichabod)

War Elephants? No (Commodore, MNG, yuris, Ranamar, Ichabod) Unanimous, really?

Huts? No (Commodore, MNG, yuris, Ichabod) Yes (Ranamar)

Speed? Quick (Commodore, Ranamar); Normal (MNG, yuris)

Difficulty? Noble (yuris, Ranamar) Prince (yuris, Ranamar, Commodore, MNG)

Spies? No (Commodore, Ichabod, MNG)

The only thing on this list we need an answer on is Speed. And Ichabod's time of playing. And any further map clarification for our benevolent mapmaker. And the identity of our mapmaker. Anything else that we need to figure out yet?
You can get a look at a t-bone by looking up the bulls ass but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.
