Diplomacy Organizing Thread

If we keep it in house we can post each turn resolution to the thread. Additionally I would post press to the thread as well. It will cook rather slow, unless we want the players to keep spoiler threads with their own diplomacy as well. That would be interesting, but more text than pictures.

Yeah!

I can't really justify playing diplomacy right now, but I think one of the really cool things about RB is that we could do a spoiler thread thing here. I'd really enjoy lurking that.

Oh, I'll definitely do a spoiler thread, although it may not be much beyond posting my correspondence and chat logs.

I could be tempted, but a 24 hr turnaround is quite quick, especially for someone who cannot email during work-hours. What would others think about a 48 hr turn time? If the turns are 15-20 turns as advertised then that wouldn't take too long (compared to civ games anyway!).

I've decided that I'm going to do a dwarf fortress AAR so outside of watching the FUN, I'm not going to be able to deal with maintaining a thread. So if someone wants in and is making a thread, you can take my spot.

Well, that's 24 hours for orders (which is the big one), 24 hours for retreats (if any), and 24 hours for builds, which happens every other turn. Orders are when the negotiation usually has to happen, especially for details like "I'm going to support your Army from X when it attacks Y".

I could do 48/24/24. 24 hours is plenty for retreats (I forget if the face-to-face version includes negotiating time for retreats and builds or not, I played in person once in 2008), and probably for builds, as well.

I will be without Internet access from Thursday morning EDT through sometime Saturday.

The games I've played in / GM'd have not allowed negotiations during retreat and build phases.

I like the idea of keeping spoiler threads. I've actually thought for a long time that Diplomacy would be well-suited to RB and would be popular, but I never felt I had sufficient Diplomacy experience (literally haven't played in years - and only a few times) to get the ball rolling on a game like this.

48/24/24 sounds great, as does Sareln as a GM. I saw a mention of "posting press" or something along that line. What is that?

Erm, i don't think it matters whether they are negotiations for retreat and build, and since this is online, we might need the extra time to communicate.

Oh spoiler threads? Definitely! (If only so that the other players hate you even more once it's over)

Press is stuff posted out in the open. Sometimes anonymously (Gray), sometimes not (White). If you have a GM, the GM can post Gray press to the game thread for you.
