RB21 Succession Game

Hi all. RB19 succession game proved to be a great success, but now I have in mind to try something a bit harder. I've always felt that simplest variants make for some of the best games, so here's one that should be a doozy.

RB21 - The Mongol Hordes
Temujin (Aggressive/Expansive)
Standard Pangaea, Epic Speed, Emperor difficulty
All victory conditions enabled, but we must win by Conquest or Domination
Variant Rule: No Promotions, ever!

I expect this game will be rather on the rough side. No City Raider axes or maces, no city garrison defensive units, no Medic units (!) or anything else. (We will have some Combat I units to ease the pain somewhat, but virtually no economic boosts whatsoever as Temujin.) Can we conquer the world, on Emperor, given those restrictions? Let's find out.

By special request, T-Hawk and Kylearan both have spots reserved for this game, should they find the concept interesting. I have also asked Sirian, but he has his hands full with RB20 succession game (you know how Huge maps are ). I am looking for one or two other players who would be interested in running this variant. I'd like anyone who signs up to have some familiarity with Emperor, given that this could be a toughee. But in the end, we'll do or die trying, right?

I'll generate a start file and open a CivFanatics thread once we have a roster set. Since my last succession game filled up in all of six hours, I don't expect that to take very long.

It's true; I just can't help seeing that in any contentious issue, all sides have valid points. Of course, some points are more valid than others. (And there I go again. )

I'll only volunteer if you can't find anyone else to play (you won't ). To tell the truth, military dominance isn't my forte, so it'd be a good experience for me.

I'm definitely game, I'm pretty confident - cocky even, when it comes to emperor games, and I have a lot of experience with beating up AI's on emperor level.

Since we'll be unable to make use of Barracks, Vassalage or Theology we'll need to carefully consider our research path, getting CS sooner rather than later will likely be a good plan. I'm used to fighting emp AI's at a severe tech disparity (in the AI's favor), relying on promotions to even up the playing field. Lacking promotions, we wont have the luxury of falling too far behind in tech.

Sullla knows any of the RB19 crew would play again, I'm sure but didn't he say there that he'd prefer to play with a different group? Regardless, as I said in that thread, sadly I have to be out either way. Still, it'll definitely make good reading. 8)

Excellent concept, just the sort of thing I've been trying to think of myself. As you say, the simple ones are the best. Just because the variant can be expressed in one line doesn't mean it won't have far-reaching consequences!

Good luck guys, I'm sure you can win but I know I personally wouldn't enjoy this variant. Not being able to use my XP would take away too much of the fun for me.
