Not only a honour thing but also a thing everyone should ask himself before starting to play diplomacy: can I still trust someone afterwards who has lied me in the face during the game.

This isn't a game you play with people you just met.

Since Regoarrar isn't sure about time availability, maybe it would be better to partner me with him? Might lead to some spotty play if we can't both contribute all the time, but seems at least potentially better than having either of us solo?

Updated Roster:

1. Uberfish + David Corperial (right?)
2. scooter
3. Cyneheard
4. Amelia
5. Rowain
6. Regoarrar + Zed-F?
7. Open

Zed-F requested a teammate, so pairing him with Regoarrar (assuming Regoarrar plays) would leave one open spot. So if ASM, Sooooo, or someone who hasn't spoken up yet wants to play then we still have a spot available.

orly???

Also, Diplomacy is a game with some interesting meta-stuff. For one thing, you are highly encouraged to backstab and lie to someone in the face. Oh, did the set of orders I send you turn out to NOT be my real orders? Oh dear. I once got to GM an incredible game where a tiny girl new to the game was taken under the wing of a more "seasoned" male player, Russia and Turkey respectively. They took over most of the world together. However, as the game progressed suddenly slight "errors" in her massive order sheet cropped up (15 minutes turns, and as Russia she had a lot of units), until suddenly she just said, "OK, let's get serious" and commenced to pound him into the ground. So yes, you will and should stab your buddy when it's most convenient and you can gain the most from it.

HOWEVER, at the same time untrustworthy players are often the ones who get removed first. :neenernee Remember, trust is a precious commodity, and if no one can trust player X no reason to keep him around to mess up your plans.

So, yes, there will be stabbing. However, there typically only end up being 1 or 2 good stabs per player. Just make sure you don't take it personally.

I am not lying when I tell you good friends have become dour enemies through a single game of Diplo.

Honestly though, i have learned to keep everything in the game, so no problems for me there. (Have been the victim of a few horrible stabs).

@Amelia: Yeah, understood.

Meta-gaming in Civ happens, partially because there's wider variation in "how much can I trust this individual?": There's everything from "What You See Me Write Is What You Get" to "Hi, slaze. It's Athlete. Oh, what's that army burning down your city? That was your army that you gave to me? Oops."

Bump. Still need a 7th. I think I'll advertise in the General Civ forum in case people haven't seen this. If there's anyone else who are thinking about playing, feel free to jump in. I know Sooooo was hesitant to play and David/Zed-F were hesitant to take a full spot due to being new, but I wouldn't worry about it too much in your first game if any of you want to grab the 7th spot. ASM - the spot is still open to you as well even if you don't keep a thread! Also, Spellman, you seem like you know the game pretty well... Interested in jumping in? Only need one!

I've been rethinking things, and I really can't be the first player in a Diplomacy game. Things are too unpredictable, and I doubt I'll get the time to do the diplomatic side of things that the game deserves.

I'll be a second player/ded lurker, like I am for Rego in PBEM17, but that's it.

Okay guys, sign me up... like to see how this goes...

I played a few online games and adjudicated as well.

EDIT: I'd like 72 or 48 hour turns... you need time to talk to people a lot!

If Nakor takes an open spot. I will take Cyneheard's spot. I have a friend who will complete my team. He's played diplomacy a bunch (I've never playedlol) including both online and not. I'll get him to register and sign up here. We've been looking for something to do together.
