Turnset 3:
Like promised, here's the highlights of my turnset.
The nPower league 2 games were very easy when we had the full squad to play with. An injury that affected Ciaran O'Neill during one of the friendlies set us back a little, but not by much.
AFC Wimbledon 2 - 2 Brighton and Hove Albion:
The first difficult game was against Brighton (nPower league 1 team), the League Cup 1st round, played at home. The squad was a bit tired after only three days of rest since the previous game.
Here's the end game pic:
Well, it was a thrilling match. We started leading the score and generally playing better, but they got the tie in a corner. After that, I thought it was game over, since the whole team was very tired. But we manage to handle it to extra time.
But there wasn't much hope left. I doubted we could suceed in the PK shootout and it all got worst when they scored their second goal. A lot of our players were in 50-60% condition. But a quick counter attack gave us the second goal and the opportunity to try our luck in PKs.
I admit that after our first penalty (missed) I went away from the computer, because I didn't want to see it anymore. Our best PK player had 11 or 12. The rest was less than 10. After I saw the results I was very, very happy. I thought I was letting you guys down, but, in the end, we managed to go forward.
Coventry City 2 - 3 AFC Wimbledon
LEague Cup second round, against a nPower championship team, away from home. Surprisingly, it wasn't a very difficult game. We dominated it and should have won by a larger difference. When they tied the game 2 - 2 I was furious to think we could be eliminated while playing such a good game, but we got the 3rd goal in a corner almost immediatly after.
Match stats:
Notice the 5 CCC against their 2.
Millwall 0 - 2 AFC Wimbledon
League Cup 3rd round, yet another championship team, away from home. We were throughly dominated on the first half and the loss seemed obvious. But in the second half Chicharito decided to make the difference with a very quick goal. From then on, we dominated and got another goal in a penalty.
Leicester City 1 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
League Cup round 4. You guessed, championship team, playing away. They dominated us the whole game, but only scored in the second half injury time.
Here's what set us back:
Yup, Chicharito injuried for 2 to 3 months, a massive blow. Without his speed, there wasn't much to do against a superior team and we ended our League Cup run.
Another really annoying thing was when this started to happen:
It only got worst while the turnset lasted (more players being called). We lose our best players for 1/2 matches, which is very annoying. The backup players are nowhere near the level of our starting eleven.
Anyway, I can give more information about any games in particular if you guys want. Making it short, our squad is very good when we have all players avaiable, so winning the league games is not that difficult. When the good players start getting injured, called for national teams, etc., our performance drops.
Here's the tactic I used, with my prefered starting eleven:
