If LP loses to a 4 player alliance voting in the AP he will be vindicated even more for the great game he has played. It will have taken 4 players to beat him ... a "GREAT victory", it is in fact just a way to prevent someone else from winning. Not what I call a proper win.
Does such a step fall within the spirit of the RB world?
Is it good game play?

Disagree. I'd say it says more on how much LP has been able to annoy most of the rest of the other players that they're willing to vote another player in to win than anything.

That would be as bad as dog-piling someone just for building The Great Lighthouse and Pyramids, and building an insurmountable lead.

Wouldn't be the first time someone tried it.

Is a game like this really worth conceding? Or is it going to be very hard for LP to actually win? I presume he'd have to build a spaceship, in which case it would give quite a lot of time to coordinate a much later gang attack.
Isn't land somewhat of a great equalizer in Civ IV? Plako has slightly more land than LP and several other players are at least comparable, so while they will fall behind, won't tech rates eventually equalize some as other players get all their infrastructure up? Or am I underestimating some sort of snowball effect?

LP should be able to snowball to an easy win, I'd imagine. His tech rate is only going to get better as he does things like, say, build the Statue of Liberty.
And how are you going to attack him late game? Once he gets Machine Guns/Infantry, he'll be invincible until Tanks + Planes, and if he gets Tanks himself by then(Which he should), then it becomes a losing battle even if you eliminate LP. And anyone who beelines all the military techs will just fall behind and lose in the Space Race to someone else, because they had to skip those kinds of techs. And if LP gets Bombers/Stealth Bombers, warring him means dealing with insane collateral, so you need an insane force to strike at him while simultanously overcoming his production base.
Out teching him doesn't seem like an option right now. He's, what, 5 techs or so ahead of everyone already and researching techs at a max of four turns per? A lot of them in one turn? By the time plako gets his civ to full throttle and stuff, or anyone really, Lord Porky will be a full generation of tech ahead.

Actually.... I disagree to an extent. I say part of the blame DOES go to the map... Go back and read the early comments on the map - the consensus was that Plako and WarriorKnight's spots (they were just letters on the map) were kinda screwed in terms of land quantity in contrast to Lord Parkin's spot, which was generally considered to have more land than most people... I DO think it's a sign of brokenness that Plako conquered someone completely (by himself so no dividing spoils) and Lord Parkin hasn't fired a shot and they have equal land... Sure it's tilted somewhat by some bad land division decisions (Luddite in particular), but that definitely doesn't explain ALL of the problem.
So yeah, as much as I like this map, the map did play a role here in LP's favorable position.

So yeah, take into account those comments plus the favorable resource distribution LP got, and I think there's a pretty strong argument to be made that Plako got the worst start and LP got the best, and we knew about it before the game started. That's why I'm not so quick to disagree with Gaspar in regards to his map comments...
