Quote: Question if anyone caught this: We found a tourney bracket yesterday (http://i.imgur.com/ZcMs2.png) as Riot still hasn't posted theirs. Did someone hear what they said about advancement in certain tourney rounds though? It was something to the effect that some lower seeds have to win not only 2/3 games, but 2 games in a row (in other words 1 defeat knocks them out). I'm not sure though if that's every lower seed or just some. Did someone catch what they said?

Yeah the third placed teams play the second placed teams and the second placed teams in a best of 3 but the second placed teams have a 1 match advantage. Seems like a bit of overkill to me. EDIT: Here is a newer version of the bracket with more info http://i.imgur.com/mN2v2.png

Quote:(which is why Morde is not considered good, no escapability and rather poor scaling into lategame)

No one in high tier is playing Mordekaiser, not because everyone has overlooked some hidden Brasil/Singapore strat... but because he's only good for pushing and nothing else. It worked for Xan in one game. That doesn't make Mordekaiser a good champion.

Good analysis Sulla but I don't neccesarily agree with these points, Morde is starting to see play at high levels in the US. The build used there now is Gunblade, Deathcap and lichblade and it makes Morde pretty much impossible to 1v1 as well as powerful in teamfights. This gives his q ~ 1300 damage on a 4 second cooldown against single targets plus a 150 heal and a 300 shield (before magic resist obviously). In addition his ult will be for ~50% of a targets health and give a burst and a sustained heal to you. If you factor in that Morde is probably the easiest character to get farmed in the game he can be very dangerous. The major drawbacks are you need the rest of the team to supply CC and you are slightly susceptible to really high burst damage.

I too watched the Xan vs TSM game last night, and I agree completely with Sulla's analysis. The game was all about Axion's Brand, who was too fed for Regi's Vlad to do anything about.

Today's games are starting very shortly -- I'm in the tinychat for those who want to join. (http://tinychat.com/RealmsBeyondLoL)

I think they banned Mordekaiser for the surprise element as much as anything else. They didn't want to be caught out by anything they might have missed, so just banned him to play safe. Not sure I'd have done that...

I agree. Other champions have no real escapability either, if Annie gets ganked top without her stun up she is even more likely to die than Morde.
Not saying that Morde is No1 or they won because of him, but just playing him at this kind of level is entertaining to watch smile I am grateful for any unusual champion that is played, Ashe/Janna vs Caitlyn/Sona in bottom again is not the most exciting lineup in the world.

Another game that was really nice was CLG vs gamed!de. Really close until the 30 minute mark, but CLG started pulling ahead in the teamfights.

Sir Bruce Wrote:I generally agree with the analysis about Morde in that game but one counterargument is that both Gamed and CLG took Morde seriously - both teams banned him, not Brand, when they played Xan. So they were clearly worried about giving up #1 champ, never die.

This is a very dangerous thing for me to claim considering my own skill level versus these teams, but I'd use that as an example that even players at this level can be irrational and overreact to small sample sizes (2nd example from the same caliber of players: Elementz rocketing champs up or down his list due to minimal changes).

Now, that said Enoch makes some legitimate points about Morde possibly becoming popular at high-elo in general, and I'm not arguing he's wrong. I do think though that if the only evidence was a top team banning Morde right after he did well versus another top team that would be more likely due to an overreaction versus an actual new understanding of the champ's strength.

PS - It isn't crazy that even the best people in the world at something could be quite irrational about how they do it. In fact it happens all the time wink

Fourth down conversions (American football) are a classic case of results-based analysis. The TV commentators always wait until after the play succeeds or fails, and then decides whether or not it was a good decision. "Showed confidence in his players!" versus "that was a reckless decision!" It's easy to be right when you can see the results and then evaluate. This is something I wish the YouTube commentators would keep in mind when they nitpick every action captured on video...

Anyway, more interesting games today. EU is playing much better today after getting trounced yesterday. AAA, Fanatic, TSM, and Epik Gaming in the Final Four. Should be an awesome finish. jive

First game of aAa vs TSM is the best game of the tournament so far with an amazing ending, check it out if you missed it.

Well things get more irrational the more money/pride/rep there is on the line.

I'm sure if you thought you had a good handle on a game and someone pulls out something unexpected that you're not going to want to deal with that until you've had time to really look at it. Dunno about the Elementz List stuff but whatever he wants to do right?

I'll also claim without citing anything in particular other than observation that very little things in this game (since the game barring crazy cases plays out fairly symmetrically until late game) tend to snowball out of control over time so little adjustments will nerf/buff/screw the balance more than you would expect.

I really think the new observer mode is awesome. I can finally see the build order of all the champs, and especially the gold total is very important when it comes to evaluating the match. Hopefully Riot can open it up to everybody soon along with a working replay system.

While there are some characters that are obviously good, there's a lot of circular reasoning in tier lists (someone says champion X is bad, less people play X, reinforcing the idea that X is bad)
