Austere Austria

or not!

Now I have to read up on that manual because I still don't know how this game actually works lol

I used this:

The Austria section is good. Real funny bit about how Austria dies easy in the beginning. Anyway, it got me started and from there I was able to pick it up. Hopefully it does the same for you.

ugh i have a feeling i'm gonna be metagaming this too much

Right now i'm reading about the much higher likelyhood of italy attacking tyrolia instead of trieste, so that the vienna army should go to galicia instead, but i'm thinking that because the players in this game are all newbs it might be much more likely that the italian army DOES go for trieste, if only for the fact that it's a potential chance at a SC for the italian player, and that he wouldn't think further than that because he is new.

i'm overthinking this

having loooooong chats with Jowy (turkey), gaspar (russia) and TT (italy)

pretty much preparing to stab all three, and then choose who when the time comes

Okay so a summary of the talks so far:

With Italy:
-He hasn't said anything about any targets yet, he's going for Tunis first but that's it.
-He wants to send a message to Germany that he won't be pushed around, he also wants to dissuade France from invading from the west.
-He wants to take Tyrolia in spring to send a message to Germany.
-I agreed, on the condition that he doesn't send anything in to Venice the same turn, and that he retreats back to venice in fall. We've agreed on this.
-He is willing to support my attack into greece from Ion if needed, I probably won't need this.
Risks:
-He might stab me and take Trieste instead of Tyrolia in spring
-Or he might stab me and move an army into venice in spring, meaning he can support into Trieste and take it in fall.
Stab plans:
-None yet. I thought about taking Venice but not worth it atm, I have more pressing concerns in the east and south.
-In the future though!

With Russia:
-Doesn't want a stand off at Galicia, because he wants to use his Warsaw army in a potential war against Germany
-I can't trust him on that, so with 99% certainty I will move into Galicia, I told him I wasn't sure though.
-We've decided to split up Balkans between us and take Turkey together. First plans are Rum to him and Serbia/Greece to me, Then we see what happens with Turkey, prolly support him into Bulgaria, etc.
-Is not friends with Turkey as you can see from our plans.
Risks:
-May stab in Galicia though he has he doesnt want to waste his army there, so I will send my army into Galicia, because you never know.
-After first year, anything can happen. He may position himself to go after me, or maybe we will go after Turkey together.
Stab plans:
-I'm prolly gonna support Turkey into Rum with my Serbian army. Because why not? Russia scares me much more than Turkey. I can handle turkey I think. This is my plan for now, it may change depending on more talks and what happens in spring. This will make Russia a big enemy of course.
-This will be followed by Turkey attacking from south and me attacking from West, prolly through Warsaw.

With Turkey:
-Is uneasy about Russia.
-Is uneasy about my expansion plans, keeps asking what i'll do after Balkans.
-We made a plan that he takes Bulgaria, and I take Serbia and Greece, he won't contest me on Greece. In return i'll support his Bulgaria army into Rum with my Serbian army, giving us 2 balkan SC's each.
-After that we go after russia together.
Risks:
-He may go after greece to deny me an SC, since I've told him i'll use my serb army to support him into Rum.
-He may leak the plan to Russia and they'll attack me together.
-If we do get 2 SC's in the balkans each, I'm not really sure how i'll handle him.
Stab plans:
-Might not support him into Rum from Serbia. Depends on the situation.
-After I do support him into Rum, I naturally plan on stabbing him as soon as I can, hoping that he'll think we're friends or something. Use my greece and serb army to move into Bulgaria maybe, and my Vienna/Galicia and new Budapest armies to negate his Rum army.

Ugh i'm really afraid of an Italian stab right now.

His motivation for taking Tyrolia is so flimsy, that he wants to show Germany that he won't be bullied around.

Basically it went like this:

TT: I want to take Tyrolia to show Germany I won't do his dirty work for him.
Me: just tell him that?
TT: No he thinks i'm bluffing, I need to take Tyrolia
Me: I'll let you if you promise not to move Rome to Venice.
TT: But that'll give you an open road into Venice from Trieste
Me: Yeah but it's not worth it for me to do so. I 100% promise I won't enter Venice if you swear that 1. You don't move to Venice from Rome, and 2. You move back to Venice from Tyrolia after "sending germany a message".
TT: okay, deal. I promise I won't go into Venice from Rome, and I will move back to Venice from Tyr in fall.
Me: Great.

So we've promised each other not to stab (which would be me going Tri-Ven, and him going either Ven-Tri or Rom-Ven while going Ven-Tyr). But can I trust him? He was so adamant on not trusting me not going to Venice, and it really felt sincere, but I can't be sure. Now I *do* want to go into Venice from Trieste, but I just can't justify that to myself. I would feel like a proper asshole to do it now. Sure this game is for backstabbing, and I will definitely stab later in the game when I get the chance, but in this specific situation I promised 100%, swore that I wouldn't go to Venice and I would feel like a huge jerk if I really did it.

I'm thinking of asking Germany to go Munich-Tyrolia, bouncing TT back to Venice, so that if he was planning to stab by moving Rome-Venice, he won't be able to.

And now i'm heavily leaning towards supporting Russia against Bulgaria instead of supporting Turkey against Romania

I definitely need a chat with Germany and another one with TT anyways. Another with Russia would be cool too.

Haven't been able to chat with Germany, but have shot a few mails back and forth. Seems he's game to go Mun - Tyr, which would negate any backstab TT can do against me except Ven-Tri. And if he does do that I should be able to get it back from Vienna - Trieste using support from Serbia or the german army in Tyrolia.

I think armies can support from provinces not adjacent to the attacking army, as long as they're adjacent to the province that's being attacked. I hope so anyways.
