Epic 6: Compromise's Report

I gave this one a whirl too. My report is here .

Now to settle in for some good reading of what others did.

Wow! Conquest victory before 1500 AD! Great game thumbsup

Lots of people are playing variants this round -- then again, it was on Noble difficulty. Pre-1500 victory was a good job.

Nice job on capturing the mace walking on water. It was a nice touch!

Good work, Compromise! Now, after you relax and read through our reports, go and figure out what the Real Ms. Beyond should do lol

Nice win, fun variant smile

I think the goody hut might have been a bug, Sirian put the "no huts" up in the rules section, which makes me think he checked the box.

FYI, I stayed in the big B the whole game, and used Theocracy to get my troops the double promotion.

Hi,

great variant! thumbsup You sure knew better than I just how weak Noble AIs with no tech trading are. smile And not having to keep and defend(!) cities spared you a lot of units, which probably somewhat counterbalanced the fact that you didn't have many cities.

This was another game where the AIs never discovered longbows. Strange...

I don't believe there is a box for "No Goody Huts". When I was creating a test game to try out, I looked for it so I could check it. When I asked about it in the info thread I was yelled at, so I just went with it....

I also think that Bureaucracy was much better than Vassalage and like darrell I used Theocracy

[Back from a back-to-back combo of illness and then internet-access instability.]

Thanks to all who commented. As we each know, it's satisfying to know that someone else took a look at our efforts. My apologies to all whose threads I don't post in; that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading it!

I've only managed to read a few reports and threads, but what I'm suprised at is the number of overestimations of the Techtradeless Noble AI. Not having really any experience with either Noble level or the Always War option, I think my outcome--in which the AI came at me in just about the strength and timing I expected it to--was pure dumb luck.

I thought my subvariant of "control no founded-after-4000BC cities" would make my game harder. In fact, the reduced maintenance seems to have made it easier (if relative win date is any guide). Perhaps this is because the production capacity I already had (and would have had if I'd been smart enough not to switch out of Bureaucracy) was plenty for making suitable forces.

Sooooo certainly got it right for a no-subvariant game: Crush 'em as soon as you can with Swords. That was all it took.

It will be interesting to see how the discussions about whether or not to list certain tactics as exploits falls out.
