Well, at least I won't be the first to die! Sorry Sciz, I guess there was some sort of conspiracy against you or something.

TBH I'm hardly putting any time into this game, and I don't think that I'm alone. I wanted a taste of Diplomacy, and now that I've had it I know that I won't be coming back. Diplomacy doesn't seem to be so much a game as an exercise in sociopathy, and the appeal of chatting up people so that you can befriend them with the sole intent of betraying them later utterly eludes me. I don't have anything personally against being occasionally ruthless, but at least games like Civ and Risk don't force you to constantly pull that kind of crap if you want to win. Fighting people is also much more fun in Civ, thanks to the infinitely more enjoyable combat system. I don't have any reason to want to backstab any of the other players here, but I can't just fight them honourably because the stupid game mechanics mean that most attempts at straight-up conflict will fail due to "bouncing".

Heh, you're not getting away that easily. Now that you aren't dead you'll be sticking out it for however long it takes. :neenernee

Well I'm not going to quit- just not put in more than the bare minimum amount of time :P

K, some game mechanics questions for anyone who happens to be lurking and knows this stuff:

First, can I move my fleet in Liverpool directly to Cly, and then form there to Edi, or do I need to sail through the seas they border instead?

Second, if I build another fleet in Mar this winter, will I then in the spring be able to use it to convoy A Gas to Pie? I'm still not entirely clear on how the whole convoy thing works. If I am able to do that move, would the end result (barring TT blocking me) be an army in Pie and my fleet still in Mar? What if my fleet were in Lyo instead, could I do the same convoy maneuver (or even better, convoy to Tus instead) ?

Third, sea Wes connects to see Mao, right?

LVP - Cly, followed by Cly-Edi, is perfectly legal.

Fleets must be in the sea to be able to convoy. They cannot convoy if they're in a coastal province.

Legal convoy moves into Pie with just a fleet in Lyo are:
A Spa-Pie and F Lyo C A Spa-Pie
A Mar-Lyo-Pie and F Lyo C A Mar-Pie (this is the only way that units in Mar and Pie could ever swap places, IIRC: Be VERY explicit in your orders that this is a convoy).

Spa - Tun just requires F Wes, while Mar-Tun requires F Lyo and F Wes. And convoys can include foreign ships, if that ship gives the proper orders.

From Gas, you'd need fleets in Mao and Wes in order to convoy directly from Gas to Tun, and fleets in Mao, Wes and Lyo to convoy from Gas to Pie.

Yes.
