RBPB4 Email and Technical Issues

I just got home today and catching up with the thread now. Sunrise said he already reloaded, and hasn't sent a save to experiment with, so it looks like we're simply going with the reload plan.

I'm not particularly inclined to spend time hacking a save in that way just for kicks if it's not needed, but if this sort of situation comes up again, I can give it a go. It's hard to write into a Pitboss ruleset though that "misclicks can be fixed if T-hawk is willing and able to do it with DLL hackery". smile The general approach can work, I fixed PBEM11 in a similar way. The game creator forgot to check "No Barbarians" so I patched the DLL to set the option and to loop over the map once to delete any extant barb units.

I forgot what it was like to live outside of southern California with regular thunderstorms crudding things up. I don't think it has rained here in 3 months.

Today was supposedly gross. I was inside all day and never noticed the storms, but the radio said there were a lot of outages. The sucky thing is that the server PC's power supply is much more fickle than the nice PCP&C unit in my main PC, and a little power flicker shuts the PC off even if most of my devices stay on.

Maybe RB should take up a donation fund for one of those backup battery things.

I've mentioned before I think that I used to have one. Sadly it died and I do miss it. I could probably just buy like a $30 replacement on sale since the server PC only draws a tiny amount of power, but my old one was a really beefy (though apparently poorly made) model that could run both my PCs, my 24" CRT, and my accessories for like 30 minutes, and now anything else seems insufficient wink

If you still have the old UPS, the most likely reason it "died" is the battery.

Which can probably be found for under $20 online. Depending on the size, sometimes you can jam a battery for a riding mower in the case as well.

Does that mean a UPS should only cost $20, or are there other parts that actually do things?
