Epic 6 - Gusto Report

I apologize for the delay in posting my report. I completed my game on time so it's not a shadow game. It's just I slowly prepared by report because my time is becoming very restrictive and these reports are very time-consuming. I told myself to complete my report and post it tonight regardless. Here it is.

Good Game, I thought it was interesting how close you settled to you captial with the your first city. Was this just for the "specialization" that you wanted?

Good observation and correct. Hamburg location encompasses all of the Floodplain tiles and made a great location for a research city because my personal analysis was to maximize Floodplain cottage tiles in a single city. In all there were 12 Floodplain tiles - 2 tiles went to neighboring cities, 1 tile I settled, and 9 became cottages.

I also wanted to reduce city maintenance and settled most of my cities in an overlapping fashion. I actually add three cities overlapping the capital. Overlapping is not a strategy I usually employ in my games. I like to give my cities the full 20 tiles to work. I knew unit cost would deteriorate my research so I micromanaged my city locations to reduce city maintenance. The little gold I saved made the difference in the early game, for example, from running 70% research to 80% research. The reduced city maintenance postponed building courthouses and allowed me to focus on building units in my production cities and commerce buildings in my commerce cities. Courthouses are an early build in my games.

I should have added this in my report. smoke
