We just want our throne back Wesnoth SG 2

Well the goal is to survive and to do that, you will probably have to fall back to string the enemy out. I thought it would be good to have our uber unit Delfador hold the flank.

The AI responds with one orc to us and EVERYONE else at the one knight

Turn 5

Move loyal to safe spot, kill orc, and set up Konrad to a spot to get some xp from counter attacks

I'd be inclined to back up a bit, to the eastern edge of the forest, maybe. That way we'd still only fight a couple orcs before dawn. Once the day comes and we get our +25% on the horses and the orcs get their -25%, we can consider counterattacking.

It's also probably good to back up Konrad to the fort so he can recruit a couple more units; he's wounded enough that he probably shouldn't fight more on this map

-Great wall of elves in trees
-pull the horses back
-use Delfador to slowly grind the orc swords down 1 by and use that harem of shamans to heal him maybe?
-Get some Archers because orcs lack ranged
-Start pulling to the NE

I agree that we should start falling back east and then later northeast. We would like to use the forest/hills for defensive cover with the orcs on flat ground, if possible. The current placement of Konrad on the flat ground was not the best choice, but he is alive and should be retreated to safety now in any case. Daylight will help us resist the orcs for a few more turns and then this map will be finished.

That makes me a tad bit nervous wink. But everything worked out, and we shouldn't have any trouble running Konrad away faster than the orcs can push us. It looks like no one will be levelling on this map, but we did get some XP on the people who count - Konrad and the shamans and the loyalist. So long as we can keep them alive, we'll be in good shape for the next one.

I definitely fail to see how one could even consider taking out the enemy leader. Maybe that goal only makes sense on a lower difficulty setting.

haphazard1, I guess you're up for the final three.

That screenshot with Konrad barely alive was rather disturbing. yikes We have to keep him safe, and make sure our other units' ZOC will prevent any orc from getting near him.

Leveling is an incremental process, with every fight survived adding a bit more XP. As you note, we just need to keep these units alive -- which means I have some careful work ahead of me. yikes

At lower difficulty levels I have taken out the enemy leader without much trouble. The orcs get less gold (fewer units) and the player gets more gold. The entire balance of power is different at the lower difficulties, and you can afford to fight a direct battle and overwhelm the orcs.

I should be able to play tonight, maybe 8-10 hours from now. So there is plenty of time to offer advice and comments. smile

I've beaten the first level with more survivors and managed to kill the orc on T9.

That was with blatant save/reload abuse but still.

I didn't manage to kill the leader... on normal difficulty. Somehow i'm terrible in this game. (I don't save/reload either though).
