I found your approach very unorthodox (even if it isn't), so for me it was quite an interesting read . Congrats on dominating!

Indeed. I have enjoyed seeing your different approach and how it has brought about a pretty crushing victory.
Good job LP!

Congrats. You played a very strong game.
I pegged you as the winner by about T80, but the size of the margin and the speed with which you got it done was very impressive. I don't think I ever thought WK would slow plako down so much.
If you haven't read it already, the lurker thread is likely to be pretty brutal on you at times. I hope that doesn't drive you away from playing in future games because I can still learn a lot from reading your threads I am sure.

Congrats LP on a well-played game! I think many people in the lurker thread (including myself a couple times) were a bit put-off by your diplomatic style, but to be honest, it worked amazingly well - so feel free to swing by and say I told you so .

Yep, I'm guilty of this too. But just like everyone else here, i have to tip my hat and say amazing game! Seriously, congrats on steamrolling the competition and leaving no doubt who the best player was for this game.

What Would Have Happened Next?
For a start, I had already taken control of all the island locations I wanted at the start of this turn. Whether or not Locke logged in last turn was actually irrelevant for Vandal - even with 4 Redcoats (1 already there, 1 upgraded, 1 whipped and 1 drafted), our first Cannon already had 40% odds and the collateral from four of them would have made everything mincemeat for the hordes of Rifles we had to clean up.
Luddite was already doomed. I could have taken 7 of his cities if I'd declared war this turn (Lagash, Maccardle, Brian Boru, Galway, Eridu, Carlu, and Umma), or 13 if I'd declared war next turn (all the above plus Uruk, Beamish, Harp, Biddy Early, Shuruppak, and Kilkenny). The steamroll would only pick up pace from there.
Plako was also pretty screwed, with a Destroyer and 6 Transports full of two dozen Riflemen inside his heartland and able to fork 6-7 cities at once.
Techwise, we would have gone for Communism next for the free Great Spy. We'd get a Great Person from our capital in 3 turns, and there was a 72% chance we'd be able to start a Golden Age. If not, we'd research Physics for the free Great Scientist and start the Golden Age after that.
With another 12 turns of Golden Age, we'd most likely research Electricity and then Industrialism - for access to Tanks, Marines and Battleships. Also high on the priority list would be Flight and Radio, for the Cristo Redentor and Bombers (and also the Eiffel Tower and hit resource wonders). Plus of course, Biology and Medicine for Sid's Sushi. (It's worth noting that Mining Inc was still up and the air, as we hadn't managed to get a Great Engineer yet. Perhaps we would have got one in 3 turns.)
Overview shot of the empire...
...and what we were building:
I'll post the rest of the endgame screenshots later in a demographics-themed post.

P.S. I have to say, I was rather disappointed I never got the chance to use this stack...
...or this one...
...or the combination of those two stacks, since with rails they could easily join together in 1 turn if needed. Plus I had chained my boats so that another 50-odd Rifles could return home instantly if needed too. Ah well.

Gee, for the life of me I cannot figure out why all the other players thought you were in an untouchable position?

Hey,
for whatever it's worth now, I feel bad about settling the city across our border. At the time I thought that you had been helping mackoti by using your warrior to spy on me (which apparently wasn't true), so I was really mad at you for that. And I was dealing with a lot of stuff in real life, so I wasn't focusing very much on the niceties of the game. Regardless, it was kind of a dick move to do that just a week after we'd set up the border division, so I apologize.

For the record, it's the only reason I considered attacking you pre-T210. If you hadn't stolen that spot, I wouldn't have had a reason to resent you so much, and would not have considered a NAP-break an option.
You were really, really lucky that Plako started building up when he did. He unknowningly saved your ass there (at least temporarily). I was all fired up for dogpiling you with Mackoti until then.

It's too bad you didn't! We could have gotten the war started much sooner, and maybe gotten rego on our side too.
