Really Relay Cryptic Puzzles

There is a straight definition but it's not at the beginning or the end of the clue
or something different?

I mean that you need to do something with one of the words to find the straight definition.

Hmmm...

Maybe enchanted disease = seaside?

I'll give another hint. Hopefully it can make things clearer regarding the straight definition. There's a chance that this hint will make the puzzle easy, so if you'd like to keep with the challenge of trying to read a newby puzzlemaker's mind, it's better to stay unspoiled.

The straight definition can be found within the word "operate".

Yeah, that's it.

Hopefully it wasn't so bad...

I'll be lazy and import one of my unsolved puzzles from the other thread.

Rock on, and vanish on the road? (5)

Ichabod, looking at the first 11 letters of the answer, I don't think your puzzle was too hard, in hindsight. But the non-standard structure made it harder. I would have tried to come up with a more cryptic definition rather than hiding it like that.

I still enjoyed it.

Bah!
I have to run.

Can somebody explain ichabods please?

Also am I right that the approach to Zaks is probably:

We find something that means 'rock on', then remove a word or letters from that which mean 'on the road'
