Square Leg is Garrim Gyrrrrrrr - An Angry Dwarf

So back to the game and what has been gong on?

I have signed a deal with the Clan for 37gpt for a 30t NAP. I am not sure if it was the right thing to do or not but it all came down to 1 very simple question in the end:

When will I be best prepared to fight the Clan? Now or in 30t.

Well, I certainly wasn't ready a few turns ago when the deal was eventually signed and so I decided that I would be in a better position in 30t.

37gpt is a lot though. I can still tech at 70% science pulling in just over 200bpt and not lose money though so it isn't that bad... I also get to settle the standing stones which I will be doing shortly which will add extra income and 2 sources of Earth Mana. I'd love to poop gold in one of my mines!!!!

Engineering is going to be done soon and I will be able to rush the Guild of Hammers with my next GE. Need to check the timing of that though.

After Engineering I am uncertain. Is it worth teching anymore or not? Should I grab Currency, swap to Consumption and run 100% cash for the rest of the game? Use the money to buy as many Gargoyles as possible?

Should I go for Sorcery and get that awesome blasting workshops built?

Maybe I should go for Religious Law and get Chalid?

lots of decisions to make...

Lastly for now, I had an interesting chat with Iskender yesterday:

I have Bolded some bits of real interest.

15:11 Square Leg Hi Iskender, divided soul is fine - i have completed the road to you too so you should have TR's now
15:13 Iskender hey. yes, i have trade routes already, thanks
err
can we talk about the clan?
Square Leg yeah
I feel a bit of douche to be honest
15:14 Iskender i'm not an innocent guy either
the game is the game
like brother Mouzone said wink
15:15 Square Leg yeah - it is.
so i have a nap with them now in exchange for gold
I knew they were going to come for me before sheaim and i was thinking if i was ready or not.
and I clearly wasn't
15:16 I'll be more ready when the nap expires this time but i reckon the result will be the same
Iskender i wanted to side with you vs the clan. in fact i took it for granted, so i didn't hurry in finalizing the defensive pact. i should have
15:17 do you think we could extend our NAP?
Square Leg Sure - I am not going to attack you with the clan.
Iskender phew...
Square Leg tht wasn't in the deal
Iskender i thought you would
15:18 Square Leg no - i signed a deal to secure my civ for a little longer - not to attack anyone - I signed the deal to prepare a better force to attack the clan
you will be pleased to know that they cannot use my lands to attack you either
I made sure of that
15:19 Iskender thank you
15:20 Square Leg I feel bad for not going gung ho against the clan with you now but they would have rolled me like the sheaim - well - maybe not quite that easily, but pretty easily
tht is why i did what i did
15:21 Iskender well, i feel bad about procrastinating the defensive pact thing
15:22 i wanted to secure as much as possible for myself
anyway
Square Leg to be fair - a macro point for all pbem's is that you wan to win, not come 2nd generally, even in a situation where you kow you are going to get ass raped by 4 soi....
15:23 Iskender about extending nap - how about my previous idea - after T160 it can be voided by either side with a 5-turn cooldown period
15:24 with the addition that the side that breaks the nap cannot attack first after the 5 turns, iow loses the initiative
Square Leg yeah - I'm fine with that.
15:25 I will be losing my corn - ale trade with the sheaim shortly, do you have corn?
Iskender the initiative thingy as well? it's not a catch, i just want to make sure that no side is disadvantaged by playing order
i have double wheat
15:27 congratulations on free commander btw. i'd have military strategy the same turn Doh
i had like dozen opportunities to grab it
but then you got warfare and my economy was in shambles so i let it go
15:28 but then again i saw you've discovered maths and AH instead
so i tried to grab military strat
but alas, 1 turn late
0 turns too late even
15:29 Square Leg lol - sorry I guess - I knew that you had acess to it for ages but hadn't taken it - for a 2t research I gouldn't resist!
Iskender ok now that we have nap i'd like to share one more thing
you might have learned that from clan
15:30 we signed a permanent nap worldspell early in the game
even before FtH was cast

Square Leg wow
i don't understand how that works?
15:31 you can't attack from in the mist and he can't use the sons against you?
if so then that is amazing!
Iskender we haven't discussed it when SoI arrived, but the wording is that we cannot use one's worldspell to harm another
something like this
now, interpretations may vary
Square Leg get a lawyer!
lol
15:32 Iskender he can't attack me with SoI i guess, but if I attacked he can defend and counterattack
that have been the main reason i sided with the clan, not the bals
15:33 but if the clan takes 2/3 of the continent we lose regardless of SoI
so i guess eventually we'll have to fight them

15:34 and it makes me a douche as you can see
that I delayed our defensive pact knowing that SoI would attack either you or serdoa
so we're 1:1 smile
15:37 so, sorry for that. if you have an idea how to eventually defeat the clan in light of your recent nap i'll be there listening
15:40 Square Leg heck - it is just a game.
15:41 I am napped tile 172 with them so I'll hopefully have some nice toys to play with by then. Nice toys that will get swamped by orcs but hey...
15:42 I will be at war with them at that point so if you are still around, and if the sons don't attack you might be, we can beat on them together
15:43 Iskender T172, that's not that far away

I'd say go for Chalid assuming you stay Empyrean rest of the game. sorcery would be also good, but fireballs are quite a bit weaker than Pillar of Fire. Priesthood would also enable building Vicar's. They are not very useful itself, but if you can get any of them to level 6 and somehow has time to grab Theology you would have possibility to "Crown of Brilliance" capable priests.

Can you grab some land from the east former Sheaim land? I doubt that Clan can hold it all. Especially marble spot would be pretty useful for you.

I have swapped back into RoK temporarily for the extra gold and happy but I will revolt back into Empyrean later.

Chalid is awesome and so I think you are right. He could be the difference in killing the Sons. Vicars are a bit meh for me. I will get my healing from adepts and revelation is very situational. Only really good against Svarts.

I plan on settling a city to poach the marble yes. wink

huh

Last turn the AC dropped considerably. 11pts no less... wtf?!?!?!?!?!? The Sheaim are losing cities to the Clan. But I don't get how such a big drop would occur. Anyone have any ideas?

What happens if you raze the veil holy city?

How about some veil hero dying if they have been built?

Also what are you planning to use for collateral in the gargoyle army, catapults?

The AC does lower if the AV holy city is burnt, but that isn't it. It is still standing as far as I am aware... Some heroes do reduce the AC if they die, by the amount they raised it by on creation normally.

I wonder if Serdoa used 7pines....

Yes - catapults and eventually Chalid methinks.

Prophecy mark? Every unit built in the city with the Prophecy of Ragnarok causes the AC to increase by 1. It then decreases by 1 when they die.

Sorry for the lack of updates - we have been motoring through the turns more easily now that there are only 3 of us left. I can't do reports for each turn now and so I'm going to try and do them in little batches.

For now here is a neat little trick:

A sodding giant spider ate my adept.... banghead

Next turn I found him:

Is there a chance that "Spider" was human controlled?

Any other news? e.g. conerning your preparations concerning the date your NAP wears out.
