We'll get dwarves eventually and as we all know, dwarves with enough heal could simply walk into Mordor.

Dwarves with enough heal could simply walk into Mordor and would shoot (with a gun) Sauron in the face. On the other hand, if they take a bad hit, they're out of the fight for a really long time, and they're slow as hell outside of caves and mountains.
Also, having gotten Wesnoth installed, I think I'll feel ready to play once I finish working my way through the challenging version of the short brothers campaign. (It's only 4 scenarios...) Maybe play next time ASM has to take a drop?

Technically that's where we're at right now . Not that I want to push you before you feel ready.

I have started a shadow game on this after watching you guys play, losing about 1 experienced guy per level atm from poor positioning or selection

Up to you - I also don't want you losing our army because you were right about being rusty. But yes, I'd be happy to slot you in now if you're comfortable playing. Just make sure to post a 'got it'.

Sometimes there just doesn't seem to be anything you can do. Someone will be hit on 3 30% chances, and then the AI will ruthlessly focus on murdering him. It's why I think leadership and always having a rookie unit or two around are important, so that you can replace those.

I did about that badly in my practice game, unfortunately... mostly because some unit would be just off-screen (but not fogged or anything...) and would surprise some unit I was trying to keep safe.
There used to be a hotkey to show all spaces any opposing unit (like, all of them at once) could reach, but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know what it is?

I meant to take a look earlier today, but I finally grabbed it now; I'm feeling ... confident enough, although, yeah, I could probably play 5 turns in the time I'm spending on one here.
