Been a while since I've lurked Gaspar. PBEM 12 was the last time. Whats the plan Stan.

So, why are we here? (Because we're here, roll the bones?) Those of you who have followed my PBEM14 thread (both of you) will note that I fairly strongly indicated that would be my last BTS game. I generally find the variety of FFH more fun for MP play, and as it is fresher to me in a perfect world that's where I'd stay. Still, I generally think of BTS as more the big boys game, requiring a finer tooth comb to probe for advantages and a tighter focus to maximize advantages. Also, given my absolutely wretched start in 14 there was a niggling piece of me that wanted to prove I could do this. Not so much to the rest of you (I've been around here long enough to know nothing other than a landslide slaughter really gets credit from the masses) but to myself. And selfishly I think I'm capable of winning one of these and I'd like to manage it before I go to Erebus full time.

Still, I fully expected my next game to be another FFH PBEM, so why'd I sign up here? Well, couple of things. Firstly, Commodore pestered me a bit over gchat to do so, so I had a keener eye on the game than others. Secondly, I'm a strong believer that the best games have a reasonable ability spread. What in my mind makes PBEM14 an interesting game is that we're all within a standard deviation from one another in terms of ability. I think that's largely the case here as well. Mackoti certainly deserves to be the favorite based on winning 2 PBEMs and a strong performance in a 3rd, but the rest of us are by no means slouches. There's also no truly terrible player in here to make it a race to see who abuses them first, which makes for better gameplay. I'd much rather have a competitive game than a coronation, like some other games around here are. Anyway, I'm here.

I'll get more into things like strategy and such in a bit. I intend for this to be a slightly more relaxed game than my others, but I'd like to call out for teammates before the game gets going and everyone goes and gets spoiled. Lewwyn has graciously agreed to lurk here and help out, but I've learned from FFH7 the more the merrier. You know you can count on me to update frequently, so if you're thinking about dedlurking a game - come on down!

Hey Mardoc. First off I wanted you to know this doesn't change the fact that I'm still looking to get the team over to a new FFH game - I sort of determined that the slow paces of the two games I'm currently in meant that I could fit 2 other games into the docket without overextending. The fact that we have a great team in FFH7 and will have one in FFH? also meant that if I needed help, it was available.

As interesting as FFH? I don't think BTS games in general are as interesting as FFH basically because there are a lot less options available. But, I plan on winning this game, which I don't remotely expect to happen in FFH7. So that should be interesting. I suppose I've learned a bit about putting an entertaining thread together from FFH7 as well, so I hope to put some of that to use. Of course FFH again is more predisposed to pretty pictures than BTS so I don't think this thread will be quite as fun as that one. But it has me and Lewwyn, which is always good for quality hijinks. Watch as Lewwyn talks me into chariot rushing someone on T30!

Anyway, would love to have you aboard, Mardoc. Invitations still heartily extended to any other interested parties - let's have a good time in here!

Chariot rushes are awesome because they are so flexible. They are as quick to retreat if your opponent gets a spear up as they are to move in an sneak a worker. It might even be a real winning strategy to snag an early worker from Mackoti.

I can't believe that there's actually enough Chinese/Spanish restaurants that a sub-genre of them apparently exist. Perhaps this one might work better for city names, since they offer the Chinese menu items in Spanish. Arroz Frito sounds like a capital if there ever was one.

There are really only two possible explanations for this post:

1. Mackoti is batshit crazy.

or

2. Mackoti is drunk.

I suppose its possible that both could be true. Nonetheless, his unique position on these boards as a non-native English speaker not particularly interested in speaking English well can be mined for comedy. Thanks, mack!

In other news, I believe I called his pick of Pericles to everyone I spoke to about this game. I'll get my mostly pre-written "opponent thoughts" post up shortly.
