We just want our throne back Wesnoth SG 2

T4:

Sadly, the big news is that I left our quick merman out to dry and got him killed IBT, because of the worries everyone had about getting the trident before the sea monsters show up. I was a little worried about it, but, well, I didn't count carefully enough, and he got cleaned up by 3 of the 4 bats that could get to him. I'll send our next closest merman (loyal, intelligent) after it, if I can...

The one other problem is, well, the sea monsters showed up. They'll be on top of the trident in 2 or 3 turns, which is about when I can pick it up anyway.

This sucks. cry

T5:

Actually, I moved a bunch of mermen over to engage the bats. I hope this doesn't turn out to be excessive distraction, but everyone was so intent on getting that trident. Unfortunately, I roll complete pants on the chances to hit, and I fail to get anyone to the trident, or even kill a single bat.

T6:

There are only about four orcs, so I think I'm safe with only a small group of

My string of bad luck fighting bats continues. I hit one out of five attempts to hit with a slowing attack (2 hunter net casts, 3 shyde ensnares) to reduce the bite damage and thus bite drain attacks at 40%. I still fail to kill any bats.

IBT, the bats kill our hunter. cry

Also, the sea monsters get to the trident and manage to succeed where I failed: they kill off the bats. They also kill something like two or three of our other mermen. Now, if only they weren't standing on the trident...

The grim situation at T7:

I'm sorry guys! If it were just me, I'd go back to T4 and try again... and maybe send the hunter with the main group so he doesn't get killed instead of trying to use it to punch through to the trident which I never did manage to get to... and it wasn't even the sea monsters that stopped me!

Also, retrospectively, distance-wise, I don't think a quick dude would get there any faster, turnwise, than a non-quick one... and he probably needs some (likely sacrificial) wingmen to distract those bats.

Sounds like a tough round, Ranamar. alright

Rounds like this happen -- no one (on our side) seems to hit, the enemy moves to exactly the wrong tiles, important units get targeted and killed. cry All you can do is try.

At this point I wonder if it would be best to withdraw our forces from the sea monsters? Maybe some of them would go south and attack the queen's forces, although probably we would not get that lucky. rolleye

But we look well positioned to finish off the orcs at the north edge of the river, and get Konrad through onto the land. Delfador will be able to help with this as well. The ogres might be able to catch up to Kalenz for one turn, but he is tough enough to survive that.

Tough luck, Ranamar, but we will get through this. alright

Luckily even if we do get a good few of our mermen force maimed we certainly shouldn't need them in numbers like this again, so its better than hitting this run of luck with our groun troops

This is very true. There are two more maps where we could use significant numbers of mermen, but both are optional depending on certain choices we will have to make later. There are a couple more maps where one merman will be useful, but even with further losses we will have a couple loyal fishy-folk left.

So wait, can you get the trident on the Shyde? That would be pretty hilarious.

Overnight, I realized I also did some pretty weedy things in pursuit of "Bash heads; get trident!"

For one thing, I somehow failed to realize the implications on accuracy of "bats have 60% dodge everywhere," although I think we still only hit around 30% of the time. Alternately put, I failed to appreciate just how much 40% hit rate was going to miss. smoke

For another, it was night. You guys had instilled in me this huge urgency, but, well, it's night, so... IIRC, the mermen did 5 damage per hit and the bats healed 3 damage per hit if strong or 2 damage per hit otherwise. (Still, missing 3 times with a trident against a bat that had 3hp and only ever got up to 5hp was really galling.)

I'm travelling this weekend; I don't think I'll really have a good chance to grab the save. Could I have a skip?

No idea if this would work, but it would be amusing. I doubt we can do it without the shyde getting killed, though. And I am not sure we would want to do it, in any case -- I think the trident would replace the existing ranged attacks? So we would lose the option of the slowing attack.

Have a good trip, Mardoc!

So that makes Jkaen the player up next. Good luck!

I just checked the trident can only be used by Mermen.

Also we will end in three turns (or four if you play carefully) so I will be happy with anyone geting the trident
