Kyan gently reminded me I'd been neglecting updating this with the RB outage and whatnot. So the relevant info:
1. The save is moving slowly and we need a tracker.
2. I went with the majority decision and am slow-building the second worker while working the unimproved deer, worker is farming the corn.
3. The surrounding area does not yet have an attractive first ring city site. There are a couple decent shouts at a 2nd ring city though.
4. Everyone has a tech in, no pop growths yet.
Thoughts?

Well at least there's a cow, even if it is a plains cow... or 2.
We just need to scout a bit more.

Turn 9 adds a couple of pieces to the puzzle. Corn farm completed which we are now working, mackoti picked up a 2nd tech. Bronze Working came in at EOT, revealing copper in the BFC. Have to think about how that impacts the micro, a 1/5/0 tile could certainly be useful. I'll see if I can get an updated sandbox up later today. Sadly, I still have no idea where I want a 2nd city. I'm inclined to loop the warrior back up the coast and look for seafood unless someone strongly thinks I should be out looking for neighbors.

Nothing doing on T10, but that water in the west is the edge of the map.

SW-SW-W of the capital might be a good site, if there is seafood. Chop those forests into the great lighthouse, and the small lighthouse will boost the four lake tiles. Then turn it into a draft camp, or something.
I'm unspoiled in this game, btw., which is why I have no qualms about giving out (potentially bad) advice.
If you know what I mean.

Appreciate it, zakalwe.
My gut instinct is that there must be some seafood along the shore somewhere, why else make the edge of the map water? My initial instinct was W-W-NW where it can grab the cow and prime a few cottages for the capital but I like your 4 lake tile idea. Could conceivably share the corn at that site though I'd expect the capital will be working it most of the time, particularly since most of the early builds will be foodhammer units.
There are a lot of resources in the south - I'd guess that's the "border" between us and the SW civ. Unfortunately making proper use of the area requires IW if not Calendar. Here's an up close shot of the south from the most recent turn.

Wow that edge blows... You're gonna want to build a city on the ocean shore that grabs the lake tiles for lighthouse lakes at least... GLH?
EDIT: Yeah maybe GLH if this whole map has an ocean border... that could make it wicked powerful. As long as no one hates you.

Correct me if I'm wrong about this - but I can't think of any mapscript that would put a sea on just the edge like that. First sign of the Bobchillingworth touch?
Now just to decide if it's significant or a red herring .

So I think that clams location pretty much makes zakalwe's suggestion a must, but I'm not entirely sure its good as a second city - we need at least fishing to get it off the ground and sailing to make it strong. That wasn't anywhere on the early tech plan. Problem is I just don't see anything else especially strong. Maybe could settle something with the southern cow and floodplains? Any ideas?
