I don't think a pure damage build is good on any champion. I'd always consider getting either a Banshee's Veil or a Guardian Angel once your core damage items are complete. In higher level matches you will just get stunned and blown up in 2 seconds.
EDIT: @Sullla: Absolutely agree on Singed and especially Taric.

Sullla Wrote:- Forget whatever Phreak said in the patch preview. Mordekaiser was absolutely raped into the crap tier by these changes. They basically cut his shield generation by half (minion change), reduced the damage on Mace of Spades, and further cut the shield generation from Siphon of Destruction to single-target only. Holy hell!
This isn't quite right. Siphon still builds shield off all the targets it hits, however it used to have an extra effect that said: Quote:Additional Shield Health: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 per unit hit
This is what was taken away. Using it on a full wave of minions only added 30 shield so it is not that big a change.
Basically his early game laning has been hit but the changes had no effect on his mid/late game role i.e nuke an enemy squishy into oblivion. It's just not completely straightforward to farm enough to get to that point anymore.
Loving the Sion buffs. Think the Singed change is more of a fix because sometimes you just can't flip something that is big like a fully stacked cho'gath

Brand - Nerfs were very minor, he's still going to be strong.
Garen - Still looks strong to me although he will do less damage without items now, its a nerf sure, but it was needed.
Kassadin - Passive buffed so 5% magic damage received reduction. Somewhat minor but will help him lane mid no doubt. Null Sphere moving faster just means its harder to shield, not a big deal IMO, guess most interesting will be the significant boost to Nether Blade, the numbers still seem low and insignificant though as you'll be doing most of your damage with Q and E. Reminds of Sion's skill to increase his damage, its his worst skill and will continue to be that way. Sure this is all a buff to Kassadin but he's still going to be weak before 6 and then not scale particularly well into lategame with his AP ratios.
Mord - No longer #1
Nidalee - Tiny buff
Noct - Fear leash is a little shorter
Nunu - Like Nid, tiny buff, still not worth picking ATM
Olaf - Errrr...well he might jungle faster? I guess he's more useful when OOM but otherwise not going to be played by good players.
Orianna - No longer perma banned in draft mode, she does the same damage as before but with slightly less range and slightly higher mana costs. Getting blue or an early tear/catalyst may be the way to go.
Rammus - Will probably clear jungle pretty fast now. Mana problems will persist without blue and still not as good as he was. More viable but still not as good as Nocturne at ganking or Amumu at teamfighting.
I don't play Shaco so not sure about his box changes/fixes, Seyruun can cast his expert eye over this and give his opinion!
Shen - Riots definitely trying to encourage Jungle Shen, he'll be faster than he was, but it remains to be seen if that's good enough. Going top lane, grabbing Pick + HoG might be good on him now. Ult still sucks no matter how you look at it.
Singed - Easier time flinging, guess some people complained in forums that they couldn't fling people.
Sion - Bit better, really needed more mana and got it. Still need mana regen items in lane though.
Skarner - More damage, faster missile speed.... good I guess?
Sona - Useful early on again, still feels underpowered unless you land a perfect ult.
Taric - Unsure on his remake, longer range heal is good. Shatter change confuses me, he can use the active more often but it does less damage, the passive aura covers a larger range which is great for teamfights. You can't spam shatter or you'll run out of mana so I don't think it helps Taric, whether it hurts him or not, well I'd have to see how it plays. The stun is more consistent and with a tiny reduction in range. His ult is better but requires Taric to be in the middle of a fight to get the most out of it. Still its better than his old ult and you won't run out of mana so quickly now. At 6 the ult will be very powerful in lane to get kills
Vlad - Q slows more with Rylais now, goody.
•Moonflair Spellblade, Cloak and Dagger, and Eleisa's Miracle now give 35 tenacity, up from 25 - All this means is supports get better CC reduction later on, MS and C&D are still poor items.
•You can now use multiple Health or Mana Potions while you have one active which will queue them up to be used after the previous completes (maximum 5 stacks) - Really nice, helps those who panic hit a key for a HP pot when one was already running.
•You can now Smart Cast items - Great change
•Creep camp minimap icons are now more consistent; clairvoyance and wards will now properly update the map icons - Needed to be fixed, so about time.
Generally a good patch, Annie will be nerfed soonish I think and Mord should be immediately rebuffed. Hopefully Sivir will see some buffs ASAP too. Same with Eve/Twitch and maybe Shaco.

Cho'gath should be immune to flips and knockups at full stacks!
Also for some reason I also read fully as fluffy, can you imagine a fluffy Cho'gath?

So everyone...what's your elo now?
Was: 1535

I am withholding judgment on Shen at the moment. I know the build and rune/mastery setup I want to try....I just don't know if it will be good enough to be viable.

Seems like HOG->Hextech Revolver could be work on solo top Shen.
With Hextech, lvl 5 Vorpal blades hit for 240 healing 40 immediately through spell vamp and then 50 more for every hit. Add on to that his passive now gives him 9-10 or so HP5 with Revolver and a HOG. That's a lot of midgame sustain in top lane. Not sure if that's cost-efficient but it seems like it could work.
Relatedly, one of the devs posted recently how they balance spellvamp based more on its effectiveness on tanks instead of burst casters. For instance too much cheap spellvamp makes Amumu with blue indestructible.

I'm going to try this as a start:
Boots + 3 Pots ----- Heart of Gold ----- Hextech Revolver ----- Cool Down Boots
And finish with Rylai's, Spirit Visage, and whatever (Aegis maybe? Or Force of Nature? Or something else...If the game goes long)
9-21-0 masteries
Magic Pen Reds
Armor Yellows
Magic Resist Blues
Flat AP Quints

Sounds like a pretty squishy Shen to me. Rylais + Spirit Visage aren't necessary, bumping up FoN would be better.
MPen reds I'm not sure thats worth it, most of the damage you'll do in engages will be physical, MPen is better for harass but ArPen is better if they choose to fight you. Not sold on Flat AP quints either, but I guess you'll see how it works if you try it out.
