[Spoilers] Commodore as Darius of the HRE

Dang hippies. They're starving because they're revolting, and they're revolt because I have lost roughly three million soldiers since this all began. So they riot and the poorest of my citizens starve. This is my much-reduced core, still pushing towards the UN.

They make for compelling narratives, but hail marys tend to wind up in faceplanting more often than not, sadly. Aquilonia is so starved that I'm not even sure how it can survive. At least you can only lose 1 pop per turn.

I settled New Nemedia this turn for the Uranium, after this turn of culture its just going to be grow upwards as fast as possible. Note the global-warming caused desert she's been founded on.

My demos have well and truly tanked now, in the same rump-state bin that contains the shattered remnants of Egypt. I miss my old empire, the not-broken one. cry

Ranamar really captured the hub from me. With transports like that, how exactly were we supposed to stop them? I offered a cease fire, doubt he'll accept it though. If he pushes in, I cannot stop him from slaughtering everything coastal that still remains.

Maybe I could name my last battleship Bismark and lead his navy on a merry chase?

Well, this will please my people. I hope it doesn't cost me votes.

Quote: Hey Ranamar, I offered a cease-fire in-game, as unless I have a semi-decent population left, my vote if (when) you win the UN race won't be enough.

Now I'm really wishing I'd changed my name last turn, just for the different name ingame agreeing to the ceasefire. :-p

I had an argument for why this was a much better deal for you than for me (revolving around the fact that I wouldn't be able to keep you busy by bombing your improvements), but I have to admit that a large reduction of War Weariness is a pretty good advantage too. (WW management has gotten pretty creative, as you may have heard from Seven. The funniest part was definitely "drafting reduces unhappiness, despite the -3".)

Incidentally, this account is one that I'm actually on for IM most of the time. It's just that, if I'm going to share an account with someone, it's not going to be this one. However, if you want to get on the horn with me at some point, well, I don't think to hang around on ranamar.lewwyn all the time.

Moar "vote for me" shenanigans in the pun thread, please.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Ask and you shall receive, Mr. Par.

Also, turn! You want to know what desperation looks like? Try getting Mass Media down to be finished at EoT (yes, the A PUN thread contains misdirection, sue me). My core is hurting, but the bleeding is staunched now, for what its worth.

Pitiful demographics are pitiful. Really, I have about four really good cities left, and they're good for about one wonder push and that's it. Of, hey, that's the only scenario that's left. I'll be rattling the tin cup next turn, hard.

Ironically, I think Yuri is in a better position than I am too. He's been a busy little builder off in Radioland, but things seem to be healing. We did a silk/banana trade this turn, which saved me at least three citizens.

In for the penny, in for the pound. I hope this doesn't cost me their votes, but if it does...well, I need to money or Ranamar will build it first.

Quote:Hey guys,

Ignore the UN thread's commentary, I actually just finished Mass Media at the end of this turn. I will be putting all of my capital's overflow hammers into it next turn and then I'll be able to rush-buy it. If I get it, there is still a chance to see Seven lose here. I'm asking to see if you guys can loan me your remaining gold to try and accelerate the UN's completion. I'm not sure how much it would take to rush-buy next turn, but if you guys can both send me everything, I have a chance to and because of turn order I will definitely get it first.

I mean when I said loan, if this does or does not work, either way I won't be researching more, so I'll be paying back anything you can give me as soon as I have the gold on-hand. Hope you both are still enjoying the game,

He might anyway, but hey, play to win in all cases.

Why does it matter who actually completes the UN?

Because that was the deal with Ranamar. If he completes the UN first, I vote for him. If I complete is first, he votes for me and I win the diplomatic victory (unanimously, in fact). Sorry, I shouldn't just post chat/diplo dumps without commentary like that.

The UN costs 12g per hammer (8 with Kremlin).

It seems extremely unlikely that you'd be able to rushbuy it on a turn that your normal production wouldn't complete it anyway.

Huh, cool, so again, the Kremlin is terrible. Thanks for the mechanic thing, though, I do believe the three bleeding empires can pump out more gpt, just not sure if they can pump out 100% more. We'll have to see.

Sorry for using you as an evil sock-puppet, by the way. Needs must as devils drive.

Desperation looks like the following message, sent to Luddite and Yuri:

Quote:Okay, right now at EoT I have 5 turns remaining on the UN, and the rushbuy cost is 4900. I'm at 1500, making slightly over 650 gold per turn. Unless I'm missing something, the turn after next will cost roughly 3900 gold, and from my own stocks I'm looking at 2200, if I pillage a few abandoned towns. What is the gpt each of you can maintain? If you can both send your current stocks plus the gpt, we might be able to pull this off. I know that with my vote, Ranamar can win, and if he wins the UN race, so be it...I know this is asking a lot, but this would truly be an upset if Mali lost here.
Cheers,
-Commodore

It also looks like looting the abandoned husks of my own old towns, and then deletion of a number of my remaining forces to save on gpt and also avoid looking threatening. See also in this picture, Luddite is still getting hammered, and my workboat is hooking up fish for one more critical health saved.

In my untouched crappy easternhold, I'm sending another boat to grab crabs. It took a world war, but I have finally achieved my objective...I own that crabs tile. Take that GES!

I need the food badly in Aquilonia, where ever the power of Biology farms isn't enough to allow me to work all my mines. Still makes a pretty respectable hammer set, although I'm certain Barad Dur outshines it. Still, nothing like desperate times, eh? I hear they call for desperate measures.

Yuri has depopulated wastelands too, which does make me feel a little better. He should loot his defunct towns too, where he can!

This all feels a little crazy, but hell, this is a lot of fun. I think I heard the horse make a musical snort of sorts. Nothing major, but keeps hope alive, and I think it's at least worth some props. As mad endgame gambits go, I think this one takes the cake.
