I chatted with Novice. At first I advocated switching to a 2t warrior in Ganymede this turn. That way we can double-team him the turn he moves onto the cow.

However, thinking about it more I thought that it was better to finish the worker first and only then build the warrior. This gives us two extra worker turns to use on those flood plain cottages. If he moves onto the cow, we'll move onto the forest next to it and also finish a second warrior. So he'll need to either leave again and make peace, or pillage and then die. The latter is only a bit bad for us, the former is the best case outcome once we've had to divert to a warrior.

Additionally I realized this could be paired with the technique of declaring war and proposing a 10t peace treaty. If YNL accepts the treaty, we don't even have to divert from the plan. (And we'll have started some good relations.) So that's what we did: no diversion except to declare war and offer a 10t peace treaty.

It's strange - if this game permitted talking, there would be no problem, YNL would say hi and just volunteer a free short-term NAP. But some people behave strangely when there's no explicit talking; I guess we'll see if this team falls in that category.

"This team" referring to us, of course. wink

For fun I simmed how we would do if we get our cows pillaged and then kill the YNL warrior. The main victim is Titan, which can forget getting a grass cottage. Also the second flood plain cottage is delayed since the workers need to rebuild the cow pasture. Other than that, we're still able to get Poly EOT28, third city on T34, and Stonehenge and fourth city on T39.

Incidentally, I think our fourth city should go where Io is in this sim, as those food resources are just too good to pass up (oh and can you say Moai? [not many can; most say Moia]). The gold can wait. This also makes it easier to share the worker labour between our four cities, and we can put a fifth city 3W of Io without needing (m)any more workers.

Re: Tech - Iron Working also crossed my mind, that might be worth going for. With my latest dotmap Sailing might make even more sense. If we lose Hinduism or Stonehenge, Monotheism gains attraction. (In the latter case for the ability to build missionaries).

Re: Great people, I'm not sure. An early (settled) prophet sounds like a good thing, but as you allude to, it might be better use of our resources to let Stonehenge produce a prophet and then have a scientist city produce a scientist as our second GP.

Me too.

Well that doesn't seem too bad. Good work, hopefully we don't have to use it! What is someone doing scouting with a warrior anyway, don't they have their own optimized builds where they have to keep their one warrior at home? (Grumble, grumble.)

I like your new Io location, that does seem smarter. Hm, I guess we want to make a lot of cities fast. smile

Edit: P.S. Looks like there might be some discussion going on in the YNL thread before he finishes the turn.
P.P.S. For the record, if YNL accept the 10t peace treaty, we'll be giving them something nice (though small) in the future, once various forms of trade are actually possible.

My humblest apologies for this, but I did't have a chance to grab it until just now, and I need Lewwyn's input on the current situation

Well, that's promising. rolleye

I just tested out the case where YNL invade but leave without pillaging, it's also not bad. Basically Ganymede's growth gets behind a turn. Since we lose 2 worker turns we don't build a mine by Titan.

I mentioned this briefly to novice, but I will formally announce my self-propelled demotion to ded-lurker status on this one. I don't think justification is really needed.

YNL accepted peace! That's at least a +3 to relations.
