I do not see the problem with their damage if other units are going to die anyways.
In fact, since Konrad is in the middle, you might just want to hire level 1s and use his leadership to weather the storm. Level 2s can come later.

Ranamar Wrote:Dwarf Guardsmen would certainly stand the best chance of surviving, what with doubled resistances. (They'll get something like 40% resistances, along with the 60% defense in fortifications...) Unfortuantely, their damage output leaves something to be desired...
Their damage output is not bad, really, given that they are level 1 units. These guys are sacrifices, basically.
Ranamar Wrote:Actually, if those are goblin knights on the wolves, which they look like, this could work pretty well: Konrad will give them all +50% damage on their attacks while they hold the line, and they'll always be attacked in melee where their base attack is at least 5-3. On top of that, they have enough HP that, even if we get unlucky and always get hit, it'll take at least two if not three attackers to kill one off.
This is a very good point, I had not really factored it in. They will still die, most likely, but have a chance to do some reasonable damage first.
Ranamar Wrote:The second turn, we can see who is relatively healthy and use them to ZOC up the enemies so that we can confidently recall some units that can actually do some damage without them risking getting killed off immediately.
We can see how things go -- if necessary we recruit another round of meat shields.
Ranamar Wrote:Obviously, this would also involve Kalenz and Delfador going to beat up the lone wolf down at the bottom.
Sound good?
The only thing to worry about is Li'sar. Hopefully she will recruit at least 2 units, so she will be protected for the turn. She should have a reasonable amount of gold, I did not think to check the status list. But keep an eye on her in case she needs rescuing.
She would complain about it if we did it, of course.
Ranamar Wrote:BTW, nice job finishing up the previous scenario!
Thanks! I saw the opportunity and went for the quick kill, and fortunately it worked. Odds were very good that it would, and I had Delfador in reserve to finish off the general if needed.
We just did not have many units that matched up well against those level 2 undead, and when the general abandoned his keep and moved to attack it seemed like the perfect chance to finish early without having to fight through the horde.

Exactly what we are thinking.

I would prefer real time as well, as i want to see their movements. (And where those units came from!)

T1: Do as I said... recruit guardsmen, gank goblin knight
T2:
All of the guardsmen survived, and the only one who was attacked is the "healthy" sort, which means he heals 2hp every turn even when moving. (except something attacking, but I haven't entirely figured out when that locks it out...)
With help from Kalenz and leadership from Konrad, one of our guardsmen manages to kill one of the trolls.
I recruit two more guardsmen to fill holes in the line... and recall our (loyal) mage of light for healing, and because, being loyal, it won't add to our cash loss. (no villages in sight yet...)
Li'Sar is holding her own, because she can recruit L2 units like Ogres and Red Mages. They take a lot of casualties, though.
T3:
Recall our white mage and a couple Healthy dwarves. I'm personally pretty partial to the Healthy trait, because it expedites healing, although, with all the healers we have around, it's probably less necessary than in some other campaigns. (The Hammer of Thurngustan, where you have only one healing unit for most of the campaign, I'm looking at you...) On the other hand, trolls all have 10% Arcane weakness, so this should be an excellent time to take advantage of our white mages, especially if we can keep the white mage in range of the Mage of Light for the illumination boost.
The situation:
The initially attackers have pretty much been cleaned up, so I think it's time to push for the enemy... or at least push through Li'Sar's lines, if we can get away with it, so she doesn't get all the good experience.
Edit: Okay, I have no idea what I did to that last picture...

I will second Jkaen -- nice work, Ranamar!
Note that there is a path north over to the northwest -- we do not have to go through Li'sar's side of the map. Although it would certainly be nice if we could slip someone in to steal the kill on that level 3 troll, after Li'sar's troops take the bulk of the damage.
