given what we know about the map, althrough we haven't even seen it yet, i'm willing to give some suggestions about what i think would be good ideas (primarily that its small islands, hence naval support is demanded)

Vikings : Beserker, while comming at a bad point in time for wars, is still great for intercontinental fights (of which there'll likely be much of) and upgrading to Rifles let them keep Amfibious, which have the protential to make or break a fight where you come from the sea ... and the +1mp in waters from Trading Post meshes well with the demand for naval support

Aztecs : Jags could make protenially good Healers with a w3+m1, but on this map they aren't likely to make or break a game. Sac Altar on the other hand is much more usefull given that the maptype 'usually' is fairly hammer poor and food rich, hence whipping would be that much more effective

Inca : Cheap Military Police and a 'freeish' Creative Trait ... paired up with a good Expansionist This would be more than decent

Portugal : Wildcard even with its naval-centric Uniques which would prehaps provoke smoke, since thier UB (never been able to spell it) is a crappish upgrade of a crappier building, and their UU honestly aren't strong enough (or have enough cargo space) to support a push

Cartage : UU is nothing to write home about (feeling lackluster to me even though i can see where it could be usefull, the map script talked about doesn't support it), but the UB is pure unadulterated greatness on this kind of map where every city, is sucepted to be coastal, and theirs a lot of intercontinental trade

Leaders:

IMO Imperialistic and Expansive is somewhat gimped due to the smaller critical need for settlers and workers (suscept that there would be less land to directly fight for), while Organised would proberly get a small buff due to needing Lighthouses everywhere,

and given that i'm usually loving to play Spiritual and Creative (hence me playing Hatty in 23) I'm thinking that the ideal combo for me would be Zara of Vikings/Aztecs ... Asoka is viable as well, but since he have none of the traditional top tier MP traits (Creative and Expansive) then ...

lol Love the picture.

an interesting wildcard for me would be Mehmed of Inca, if thats catchable tongue

I think its best combo,Mehmed of inca for beggining, but geting + 1 on the boats, and berseker i think its more stronger.

Creativ its not strong on the small islands map, industrios is destroyed by no colosus no great lighose, so oraganizat its a must with no finanacial and with the other restriction look like the stronger trait.

my love for Creative is twofold ... no need to wreck my brain about getting Monuments up, which means researching Mystitism early on, and likely whipping them, which cost food and time getting a city to be at least reasonable, which Creative does in a very few ammount of turns ... secondly its due to the cheap Libs (which can be 1popwhipped after 1 turn if memory is correct) which is going to support a lot of the research ... specially since small islands usually is food rich and not all that much cottage land, leaning towards Specialists

remember ... Map is effectively (at least from what's argeed in the oginization thread) going to be Large archipelago with tiny/small islands

Here is your start. Minor modifications possible, but nothing that would have seriously affect to your leader or nation choice will be changed. Have fun.

hmm ... coast to the SW and W, small land penisula or link to the NW, coast to the N, NE, E and SE and Tundra to the S

three suscepted islands in sight, W (with Wheat) NW and NE

Hunting while a subpar tech choice would be nice for the scout (near certainty that we can't be bumrushed) if for nothing else then so we can move it SWSW figuring out if its worthwhile to go SE or SIP ... theres not really any other suggestions standing out as protentials without futher fogreading from a save

Fishing/Hunting with a early tech path looking at AH, Argiculture and Sailing would probably be a reasonable way to go tongue

If still there when it gets around picking Vikings with our first pick would be nice

ended up taking Aztecs ... with the ammount of hammers generally around on this kind of map, the whip is going to be used often, and Aztecs makes it easier

as for leaders ... Zara or Mehmed is my prime contenders and if neither of those is around ... pff ... Roosevelt i'd guess since then i'd at least (likely) be the only one with Industrious, so i have a chance to grab 'Mids and go heavy scientists

lets go through the picks shall we?

Pindicator: Roosevelt of the Vikings

Took Vikings no surprise, since their superior naval mobility is going to be a nasty fork which can threat more stuff than others, paired up with Bezerkers which is leaning on the same strengths ... naval combat ... FDR is a reasonable leaderpick, which i as said was on my list, but since i often stink at building oracle (just can't get it to fit into my early game tech tree) hence ages to get forges i didn't take it ... but its in no way bad since he's the only Industrious - good leader, best civ

Yuri: Joao of Inca

Inca, taken for the free watered-down creative trait in Terraces, and very strong if paired up with Expansive ... why adding Joao to the mix buggles my mind through ... Imperialistic aren't that hot a trait in my book ... with Mehmed and Izzy off the tables i would rather have taken Washington or Bismark if i was in Yuri's shoes - worst leader, good civ

Sian: Zara Yaqob of the Aztecs

Likely provoked a few odd looks by me taking Aztecs (when Cathage was still around) but my reasoning is that small islands is usually low on hammers, hence the whip would be in use a lot, and Aztecs help with that ... UU is crap-on-a-stick through and i'm not seing myself building any except if i get the chance to create a W3c1m1 healer ... Zara is for covering my weak point (early game culture expansion) and because Organized makes both UB and Lighthouses (which is a protentially critical building) much cheaper ... although truth be said, if Mehmed was still around by the time it got back i would have picked him, and in hindsight maybe I should, but you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, and if Aztecs was taken as well i would have had no clue which civ to take (Cathage was fairly certain to be taken) -Good leader, good civ

Gaspar/Commodore: Mehmed of Carthage

Carthage is taken for the Cothon which is a free mini GLH in each respective city and if you have the hammers for it it's good, but at the same time i don't see numidian's being built, even less than i'm seeing my own UU being build, so ... Mehmed as noted earlier I should maybe have taken but didn't, but gives a lot of cheaper buildings which many cities is going to have, Granary, Lighthouse and Courthouse specificly -Best Leader, good civ

Regorrarr: Isabella of the Ottomans

Ottomans, eventhrough i'm playing them in 23 and can see why the usually is a good civ, specificly in MP, i just don't see as a viable civ with this setup, Hammam, while giving happiness (which as noted earlier is 'rarer') Is just to expensive on a map with that low ammount of hammers and Jani's aren't in my book strong when you have to slug them on boats, since you pretty much have to land nextdoor with a lot of siege, which means even more boats ... other than Vikings, i don't see UU's as being anything that protentially can make or break this game, if coming before rifling. Izzy is a good leader, no doubt about that, cheap Granaries and Spiritual, but ... I'm just not seeing it -good Leader, Worst civ (well ... worst might be a bit harsh ... but mismatched i'd say)

Anyone with a good idea for a Naming Theme?
