This is what I'm missing out on in PBEM 5? I'm going to have to plan to read your thread from end to end once I finally bite it!

Pedigree needs some theme music

So Iskender - what did you miss when playing the turn?

So the Sidar are our southern neighbours. This is good news! No Illians or Clan makes me happy. All we need to do now is find the empty ruins of Sarelns capital, or the Grigori to our East and I'll be over the moon!!

The Pyre of the Seraphic is there but I imagine that it is guarded by a held monster of some description. An Azer or a Fire Elemental perhaps. Otherwise I would be condoning a raid - after all - we are a Raiders Civ...

Diplo-wise I think we need to friendly for now although the Sidar will eventually make an excellent target for our horses. I'd like to sign the messages off as Amelanchier rather than personalise them for now. Certainly as I imagine that we are going to be a fairly hostile civ to know in this game and I want it to be clear that it is the civ carrying out those actions and not us personally!

So how about:

Our Scout "Pedigree" has spotted your borders far to our south. He is an apprehensive little fellow at the best of times and easily scared. I have told him not to worry about the whispers and voices he hears in head as he approaches the land of shadows and apparitions. He shouldn't worry; should he?

I may have fucked up your micro... gets mining 1t sooner but will result in slightly less overflow from the settler.

Good news indeed. They should be weak until they get some priests online. We might consider a temporary alliance vs the Illians or the Clan.

Do we turn east? Maybe they'll be able to give us some directions.

Mine is quite boring. It's mostly "this turn I did this and that". I draw fancy arrows every now and then though. The theme is:

Sorry about last night - my internet hung and I bored waiting for it to come back. Mist was actually chatting to me at the same time in response to the mail I sent him:

Quote:19:19 Mist: oh, so you're our other neighbor
lovely, pure wonder :]
19:21 anyway, hello from the land of Sidar
19:22 I'm afraid our relationship is destined to be a short one, since our other border faces Serdoa
me: Oh crap
Mist: and we expect to have mobility PoW in our face in about 20 turns
19:24 so unless you have any bright ideas that extend our lifespan ( we're willing to pay good money for that ), there's not a lot of long term discussions to be had wink

So all I said was "oh crap" lol I'll write him a short ditty and explain!

So the Illians are the other side of the Sidar. I'd have liked them in the opposite corner to us but I guess this isn't too bad considering.

Code:
Us    -     ?     -     ?
!                      !
Sidar - Iliians   -     ?

One of those ?'s is a blank now of course.

Poor dudes. Among the remaining civs they're probably least equipped to deal with the PoW.

If they are the targed of a PoW rush then I guess there's not much we can do. Sending a few horses would only aggravate the Illians. So allying with the Sidar is out of question I guess.

Yeah - I don't think that we can offer anything really. I wonder who is the other side of the Illians. My concern at the moment would be them coming after us once the Sidar are disposed of. I'm keen to meet Serdoa to try and avoid this so I suggest we head that way with Pedigree.

I will see if I can get some directions to Serdoa and also ask if there are any barbs we should be aware of. In return I'll tell them about the barbs we have seen and that we haven't met our other neighbour.

Amelanchier Wrote:Hello again Varn,

Sorry about our last communication, the fire went out and my smoke signals weren't working...

We have encountered a variety of barb animals ~5 tiles north of your borders including an elephant, scorpion and Lion. There is also a goblin fort 7N1E of the Pyre. Fortunately Pedigree can run like a mofo and managed to avoid them all! The Illians to your east is... for want of a better phrase, a real shitter for you. Do you have contact or at least know who is the other side of them? We have yet to meet our eastern neighbour since we have only scouted south since stasis forced us to huddle up in our capital for warmth. If you have any directions to meet Serdoa, or know of any barbs in the vicinity of our scout, I'd really appreciate that help.

With regard to aiding you against the Iliians - we will have to see where we are in 20t. To be honest, we're not entirely sure what we could do in that timescale that wouldn't just make us the next target... This isn't a no by any means, more just that we need to know the bigger picture at this stage.

Oh - and we take the red pill... wink
