Updating the thread a little bit, after we played Turn 106:
I haven't been able to do very much these last two turns. When we discovered Civil Service I had to burn a turn of Anarchy flipping into Bureaucracy, and then the following turn we decided that I might as well make the swap into Buddhism as well, so that I could start getting the Organized Religion bonus in the capital. (It does get added to overflow and forest chops, so that incoming chop will produce 20 * 1.75 = 35 shields and complete the library.) Capital is currently working all 7 floodplains cottages, along with the wheat and the iron. I will probably build Library -> Buddhist Monastery there for the maximum science bonus. I'll be running 100% science on a permanent basis thanks to teammates.
Tibbers is going to build a settler next, which I'll almost certainly double whip to completion. It's had to take on the settler/worker duty so far because the capital has been growing nonstop to larger sizes. I also have a third city now, called Janna Monsoon after another League of Legends character. This is one case where the Build Culture option really comes in handy; I can run it for two turns while working the floodplains cottage (2 culture), then work the plains forest for one turn, get the last 3 culture for an instant border pop, and then swap over the pigs tile. Three workers can pasture the pigs right away here on Quick speed, plus the health will allow the capital to grow faster. With my fourth city intended to go over by the rice, and probably my fifth city further east over by a corn resource, I should be able to scrounge up the health I need for the capital to keep on doing its thing.
This is Speaker's territory. So far, his biggest issue has been coming up with enough worker labor to improve tiles due to incredibly fast growth. I think Speaker has 6 of them right now, going up to 7 after next turn, which are in the process of rectifying that. With the forge done, I believe he can turn out 2t settlers in that capital, factoring in the Imperialistic and Bureaucracy bonuses. Hopefully that will mean a lot of cities for all of us in the next 20 turns.
I am the top rated civ in GNP (91). Sunrise is rated #2 with that 83 figure. Speaker is right around that Average number, in the 50s. This is what we see as our biggest advantage at the moment: we're researching at a far higher rate than any of the other teams. We've discovered two techs thus far, while no one else has completed anything beyond Civil Service. Machinery was listing as a 7t research, and we will probably shave a turn or two off of that. The biggest question will be whether some teams choosing to add more cities before us causes them to snowball harder later on. Of course, in Civ4 the team that techs the fastest is usually the one who goes on to win, so we seem to be in good shape at the moment.
Oh, and since Speaker and I are #1 and #2 in the "Power" ratings at present, there's very little need to fear an early rush. The era of the Praetorian is almost over at this point, and we look to get maces before anyone comes knocking at our door. That appears to be one major fear averted.
