[Spoilers] Commodore as Washington of the Mongols

T-hawk Wrote:The difference between whipping sooner vs later is that the city stays at a larger size working more tiles for the extra turns before whipping. Not a big difference here since Mermaid would just be working coast, but if it were something like floodplains cottages, you do want to delay that whip.

I meant compared to just building Moai until the turn before you want to whip.

Yeeks. Well, I asked the question, I get the answers. There was no OR bonus because I'm not yet in OR...actually, until just now, didn't have Monotheism either. Show detailed bars would have helped, though, you're right.

As far as Hippocampus, well, firstly, it's fitting with the theme: Hippocamp. Secondus, once the granary finishes, I'll actually have a lovely banana plantation to work, as my logistics have finally come unsnarled. Plus, it was profitable at settle, thanks to the GLH.

Little Faun needed one more turn (this one) to be break-even so far away from the central core. I need a Forbidden Palace up soon. In any case, reach town is a reach, but it'll be turning a profit in no time with those flood plains cottaged.

Here's The Core 2: The Electric Bogaloo. I'm enjoying this area's fecundity already, and realize most of these cities are less than two dozen turns old. Plus, now featuring canals!

It's not break-even, and actually has a ways to go. The city drives up your number-of-cities cost for all your other cities, also costs civic upkeep, and everything including the directly shown cost is multiplied by inflation. All these factors are small so it will become profitable soon, but not just yet. smile

BTW, Bob, if you're reading, what happened with that river at Faun? It's got those bizarrely truncated side streams just east of the city. I noticed this in an earlier shot but it's very clear there. Commodore, does it always look like that in the game?

For reference in "how are we doing", here's the big three graphs, taken end of turn.

GNP, Gaspar has a small but definite edge at max and of course he has far more beakers behind him. He's right now on the path towards Pacifism to make his specialist economy a GP economy too, we'll see how my higher-happy cap cottage focus works.

My game-long MFG focus is paying dividends and my hammers are still much higher than my neighbors on average. This, more so than the #1 power rating, is what keeps me reassured and safe.

Finally, Crop Yield, which kind of surprised me, I'm edging out Gaspar slightly right now, which means terrifyingly that Mackoti, despite running a meaty specialist economy, is still topping out the crop yields. His Representation cities must be true monsters, I'm curious about his dotmap, how much he's worked to maximize food.

Yeah, it's always looked like that, I've had that weird-looking artifact myself when building rivers by hand. Rivers are hard. frown

That's what happens when you have two rivers with different flow directions flowing into each other.
I have to run.

Hey Commodore, where did that settler in the flood plains area go?

Oh yeah, about that feller. Well, we found a better use for him. Why aggressively settle #2 when you can aggressively settle #1? Everybody wave and greet Harpy, on the far side of the world.

Mack spotted it anyway now, as he's of course settled to the west of the peaklands. Holy lush area, batman! My keshiks have been clearing out the local barbs very nicely, too, and should be ready for the irate welcoming committee he'll be scrambling.

More reinforcements and the lovely Iron island city will complete the logistics train. I'm going to be simply working the gems for now, as happiness is no issue and the commerce will be epicness of epic.

New settlements and huge vertical growth has me fully in the lead in Crop Yield, at last, and at least competitive in hammers and commerce. Oh course, the other really important stat there with my new expansion vector is Power. Yeah, that's comfortable.

Silly Gaspar, expanding without escorts. Yes, I'm NAP'd with ya. No, the barbs are not. Owie.

My core still grows nicely. Gryphon is about to welcome a ton of new cottages with it sugar finally improved, boosting the growth rate nicely. I suspect I'll have at least one legendary city before the game is over. :neenernee

Meanwhile, the capital's silliness grows ever more. I'm literally making the ToA here because it's a quick build with marble and I have nothing better to do. If someone else makes it I'll take the doubled failgold and walk away smiling, too.

Well, that was sadly predictable:

Quote:Hi Commodore,

In Last we have contact.Congrats for great lighouse.
I found the city which you pink doted me.For now i want to have peace i supose you want same think. So what we gonna do about that city?
Here is my proposal:
1. You tell me which one is and i request the city.
2.I will grant open borders for you until turn 140 or whatever you want.
3.i gift you 1 setler or 140 gold.
If not well i have 2 units in my galey, i dont know if you have the power to keep the city, but anyway i can get macemans, astronomy very fast and bloacades are not forbiden.
Let me know what you think about this.

Regards,
Mackoti

Honestly, my current position is to spit in his eye and make a fight of it, everyone else has been caving left and right to him. If he is near machinery and astronomy already he's not going to be stopped by a settler or 140 gold.

Well, yeah, we might be able to work out something here, but I'm not going to be bullied.

Quote:Hey Mackoti,

Ah, I think everyone finally knows everyone now. Congrats on the Pyramids, Oracle, Hanging Gardens, and MoM.

I agree that peace is good, but right now you say that your tech rate is better than mine, whereas I currently have a much larger military than you. I don't think peace right now is a great deal for me, but we might be able to work something out. Just not by crippling me and letting you take your time until you have rifles to my knights.

Here's my counter-proposal:
1. I evacuate my defenders and let you raze the city. You pay for damages with 150 gold.
2. We open borders, which unless I'm very mistaken is as much a favor for you as it is for me, what with you being unable to force Gaspar to open borders.
3. A simple, straight-up NAP until turn 110, with no other strings attached. You've grown vertically at the expense of expansion, which is all well and good, but I don't think it's fair to be able to claim a full quarter of the map without filling it with cities. So it's a settling race for the middle marble areas and everything else, and if you want to abuse OB to settle TT's side I'm fine with that.

Otherwise, as you said, my military advantage is now, not later, so we can see about how war goes. This is probably something that will let Gaspar win this, but I'm not like Gaspar or TT, I'm not about to be pushed into deals against my interest.

Cheers,
-Commodore
