Memory Requirements for larger maps

I have an AMD Opteron 144 (3000+ w/ 1meg cache) overclocked to 2.55ghz, a 7900GT, and 1gig of DDR-400 at 2-3-2 timings. Early in all games and basically to the end of normal size map games my in-between turn speed is basically instant. By the late middle ages in large or huge map games I notice some slowdown, and by the end game on a huge map the game maybe takes 2 seconds or so betweem turns. Reloading speeds things up noticibly, as others have said. I don't feel this overall is a RAM issue, even though I could use another gig in general computing, but rather a CPU issue. I say that since I most notice slowdowns when forcing the game to run lots of complex calculations, such as choosing the domestic advisor late game with tons of cities, or when clicking "end turn" and waiting for all the AIs moves to be calculated.

Has anyone ran the game on a substantially faster CPU? Basically I'm wondering if anyone has something like an Intel Core2Duo running at 2.5+ghz, and if there are any slowdowns. I would wager such a CPU would suffer much less of a late-game hit.

Uh... WOW!! Instant in between turns that is sweet.

Well it isn't instant in the impossibly literal sense of course, but realistically on any map normal or below and before the medieval era, I'd say I have control again by the time I'm ready to move my mouse cursor off the "end turn" red button.
