Astronaut without sin confounds press, invites trio to control civilization

Ooh, Commodore posted in the lurker thread. Guess I didn't goad him enough to post here instead. wink

Your posts related to overseas land sleuthing are both informative and hilarious. I'm taking notes for future games.

So here's the best city site we've discovered so far in East Atlantis. rolleye

We have three settlers on the way, so this site will be settled t86 and get a cultural expansion from running artists. Worker is already preparing to chop the granary, and a work boat is also on its way.

There's not much room for more quality land. That is the edge of the world over there.

Since we can't boat Commodore in-game, we'll do the next best thing and pillage all of Mackoti's seafood. Unless he decides to be very generous with us:

Be that as it may, Mackoti discovered calendar this turn so he's two techs from Optics. We'll probably declare on Mackoti next turn. Our objective is to slow him down by pillaging some seafood, and by forcing him to adopt Bureau+Slavery on t84 and whip defenders during his golden age, instead of staying in caste system.

Here's an overview of East Atlantis:

Our GNP is pretty laughable right now, but our crop yield and power is solid. Sian and Mackoti are in golden ages, or actually Sian just finished his. He discovered paper, so maybe he'll steal liberalism from Mackoti. One can hope.

Things are still looking very good despite the disappointing new world. We should be able to slow down Mackoti a bit (and make an enemy for the game, but who are we kidding, Mackoti is our competition here). And on turn 86 we'll have the basic infra in place and will switch back to Caste+Pacifism, which will do wonders for our research.

Oh and by the way The Great Library is due in 7ish turns in Io. And we passed 1000 in score again this turn. smile

Forgot to mention, Sian has two galleys in attack range of our northernmost city of Titania. We scrambled a bit and will have an axe, a spear and a war chariot defending the city, which should be enough to keep it safe. Besides, who researches Paper and uses axes, galleys and chariots to attack the civ with galleons and maces, that's also supplying them with the doubler resource for University of Sankore?

Finally a city worthy of our atmosphere-less rock/iceball naming scheme. smile

Correction - Mackoti discovered Compass last turn not Calendar. This is a strange choice, since Machinery is the more useful Optics-prereq (Compass just sucks). So, maybe he's planning to build harbors? huh Novice did point out that would help his trade routes in the Exploits thread...

Or maybe he's planning to bulb Machinery.

Harbours would make sense if he were expansive, perhaps.

That would require Paper, Education, Printing Press, Philosophy, Aesthetics and Liberalism. smile

Not for an engineer. smile That would mean he's gambling on getting the right GP though, which apparently he did already with his CS bulb. Actually, maybe he was getting a mixed Engineer/Merchant/Prophet from Athens and wanted to keep the bulbable techs unresearched, so he held off on Machinery in case he got an engineer. But he was getting the majority of his research through scientists, so he had to research something. (If he had gotten a prophet I suppose he would have made do with Theology or a shrine, or a later golden age.)
