[Spoilers] Commodore as Washington of the Mongols

Well, here's the initial 5, 5, and 3 catapults down in the corner. TT didn't open borders, so I couldn't gift anything this turn. Hopefully having some modernish units will help, these guys can at least scratch infantry and cannon, which is Mack's current composition.

Actually, thanks to rifles' +25% against cavalry, the stack-up isn't that much worse for cavs going against infantry. I'm building up enough stacks to wipe out all but the gnarliest stacks of doom, at least this side of tanks.

I checked, Gaspar is still sandbagging Scientific Method (Parthenon) and Mackoti is still sandbagging Astronomy (Colossus). Thus, I opted for Scientific Method myself, shooting for the still unclaimed Physics GS. SciMeth came in at the end of turn, and I'm roughly 500 beakers short of doing Physics in one turn.

At least I have land-based oil, under a soon-to-be-town. We already know coal is under another of my towns thanks to Gaspar's miners, and who knows where uranium is but with nukes banned and land-based oil the point is moot.

Finally have an all-town city, the great capital of Manticore. Boy this creature is a beauty, even with the ToA kaput and all its monasteries gone. I need to figure out if I can squeeze one more great person out of here before the endgame bloodbath.

Gaspar's intense thread activity is making me distinctly nervous. If it's about his upcoming massive war effort against Mackoti, so much the better, well done. But given how checked-out he's been and how tense our borders are, there is a non-zero chance he's preparing to hit me before Mack inevitably wins, perhaps dividing me with Mackoti. That, succinctly put, would suck.

Seems unlikely. I like the physics grab, and I assume Communism would be next?

Eyah...maybe. I still need Liberalism before I could grab it, but that's not a horrible thing as I think I'll pass the break-even point for Free Speech in a few turns. I'd like to have State Property, but with my mature towns even in the outer reaches + well-placed Forbidden Palace + courthouses everywhere, it's not a huge deal. Not sure, but I think corporations are unbanned this game too, which means Sid's might worth looking into.

I need to check to see if Fascism's Great General is still around, I could instantly unlock West Point with a GG if I wanted. Instant Ambush cavs anyone?

Then too, as much as I am bolstering TT now, and as strong as Chm/Mongolia cavs are, I fully expect to have to fight Mackoti eventually with something strong enough to take his invasion hits...which means Machine Guns. I think Steel -> Steam Power -> Railroad is the next set of techs, with Assembly Line or Combustion after that.

Gnnnah. Mack, Mack...if you somehow manage to turn that creaky smoking workshop economy to 1-turn Physics, I am going to be very, very angry.

Well...looking at the demos, it will be hard for him, even assuming some overflow from Astronomy. My GNP took a bit hit from killing all those lovely monasteries, but then again so did he by obsoleting the Colossus.

Of course, there is a nonzero chance that Mackoti might lose the Great Scientist and take it out on my gems island. That's two transports looming, it might be a precursor to war.

He might also be heading over to invade TT, but TT should be able to at least retaliate now. My gift-horses, after a couple turns of mouth inspections, are finally streaming to the front.

I just really, really hope this isn't going to get them all squandered somehow. I'd feel better about it if TT had a better reputation in war, but I'd rather not pay for them or take losses right now, so he gets them gifted.

That's all depressing to contemplate. Check out my awesome towns everywhere! In Free Speech these will be huge producers of commerce:

Gryphon, now with awesome GA potential.

Basilisk, squeezed but still a winner.

Hippocamp, mocked by lurkers but still solid.

Ah, to have Mack pause for just half a dozen turns, this would be a game of no little interest. In a couple turns at least I'll have airships for reports on the front lines.

Also, in chat:

Ah well, he's been stockpiling Great People for a reason, at least it was a net-zero for him if he bulbed the tech, which I think he did. My uranium just needs a road to be hooked, at least.

Not sure what the damage is going to be, I packed the still-mispelled Satyr with upgraded rifles. This is going to be a painful reaming, I suspect. alright

No trouble seeing why he wants to bypass TT though. Holy crap, that's a lot of medieval trash. In a no-nukes game, that's just tedious to walk through. Ah well, now I'm in scramble mode, and I lack this kind of dedication.

Welp, here's the high-water mark, I think.

Hrm, new game anyone?

This, I believe, classifies as "much less bad than it could be".

Poor Satyr, eternally forgotten to be renamed. The mild unhappiness issues required me to run [strike]into the briar patch[/strike] the culture slider a bit. Oddly, there was just enough food in Satyr's box to not starve this turn.

This is going to be annoying.
