[SPOILERS] Novice and SevenSpirits play Suleiman of Korea

SevenSpirits Wrote:Max food was good. We may have a worked -> settler option too that's worth considering though.

Yeah worker->settler seems better.

I think I'll wait until we know where copper is to do further planning.

OK, I did the C&D grunt work. Here's the summary:

NobGas (EXP, PRO, Agr, Wheel) opened Mining - Pottery - AH while building two workers. The fact that they grew to size 3 a turn after growing to size 2 indicates they've built a granary next. They've got one turn into their next tech.

Lewwyn (SPI, IMP, Agr, Hunt) opened Mining - BW* - AH, and went worker, 8/10h warrior while growing to size 2, probably another worker, finish warrior t17. He also has just one turn into his next tech.

Mackoti (IND, ORG, Agr, Wheel) opened Myst - AH - Pottery? (not totally certain of the last one) and presumably has a large number of hammers in stonehenge right now. (He's been growing a bit slower than us due to working some 1/2/0 forests.) He has two turns into his next tech.

My guesses as to current techs: (GNPs indicate that probably just one opponent has a non-first-row-tech selected; I'm guessing it's NobGas with cottages.)
Mack: Mining
Lewwyn: Wheel (could easily be Myst though)
NobGas: BW

Conclusions:
* We will not be trying for Stonehenge.
* If we wanted to convert hammers to gold, we probably have the opportunity for a few more turns, but I don't think we want it.
* We should strongly consider one or more of the following: Religion, Oracle, GLH. (GLH and religion don't mix well, though.)
* Our choice of wonder run will determine our choice of tech after BW. Probably either a religion or Fishing. Either way it looks like Wheel will probably have to wait, and we won't get a trade connection just yet.

* Don't even know why I bothered to do C&D on Lewwyn's first two techs. He's so predictable!

If we build GLH I'd ideally like it to be on a hill or in a cove (only one adjacent sea tile). Two places that seem reasonable and may be productive enough without border pops are:

The upper one borrows cows, has clams, 3 hills, and 4 in-culture forests. The lower one claims both sheep and horse and also has 4 in-culture forests. But it only has one hill. We'll find out soon if it has any seafood (or, heaven forbid, maroons any seafood).

Here is a rough try at near-fastest GLH from the upper red circle. Of course it assumes there's no copper. We get it EOT43.

Tech after BW was fishing-sailing-masonry. Sailing came 2t later than desired; Masonry could have been a few turns later.

Our start is dumb. When we signed up we thought most of the other teams (everyone but Babylon) would have equally dumb starts, but Roosevelt got upgraded to Agr/Wheel and Persia gained IMP. For context, if we'd had an Agr/Wheel start we could get Pottery before Sailing and not delay the GLH. As it is we get Pottery t44 if we don't want to delay.

Maybe we need to do Oracle instead and not delay pottery so long.

No plans for the Pyramids instead? I'd think that's the natural fit. I suppose with Mack pursuing 'henge (I assume from your post, obviously he's not telling) Oracle does look more likely.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

Without stone, Pyramids are not a near-term proposition. Certainly not before math.

On top of that, Pyramids needs either Caste + Spiritual or at least Creative (cheap libs) to be really useful. If we don't find stone, I can't see us ever wanting to build them. (Maybe it would be a good use of a great engineer though; it depends.) Justinian is a much better fit for them; being able to switch in and out of caste is critical for their power (at least in a game without communication or NAPs).

I think I like GLH. Eot43 seems pretty good. Our new cities just need to get to size 2 or 3 and grab their resources, then slowbuild workers and settlers until Pottery's in.

Let's hope for copper by a GLH site.

Mackoti finished henge. We scouted some important islands and also revealed two sources of copper. We met Mackoti via his scout near our capital.

Not pictured: Lewwyn's two coppers, both riverside. Not chariot-rushing him!

Mackoti has not yet met anyone else.

I neglected to change EP; I guess we got NG graphs last turn.

Oh and I put 19h into a worker so we can 2-whip it next turn. This required working a forest instead of our shiny new plains hill mine; such is life.

Time to break out the micro plans I think.

One extra comment: I don't think sharing the corn with the second city is particularly strong. We still want to grow grow grow whip Attach Mimes, and until we have a granary it can use every drop of food/hammers we manage to give it.
