From what I've heard, we just need to get to Slavery first to win this game.

My BtS skillz are so rusty, I actually had to go and look up our civs starting techs.
So, we're playing:
Clearly, this man just exudes Financial adroitness and Charismatic aplomb
of
Clearly, this land could use some more Mines and Roads

Damn, I was hoping we would get some leader with an exact trait counterpart in FfH so I could make the obvious joke of saying we would be playing him...
Ah, what the hell:
We are playing Alric Ulvin:
Just imagine he's financial instead of... defender (urgh... that's like the protective from FfH).

LOL, my teammates are so noobs... They don't even know what are our starting techs... It's obviously... Hm... Agriculture and The Wheel, is it? I remember going pottery first with Mansa, so... *Opens new tab, goes to civfanatics*
...
Oh boy, this is going to be one hell of a ride!
(Starting techs are mining and the wheel ![duh duh](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/duh.gif) )

Well, I'm pretty happy with what we got from the random leader/civ roll. Nice civ and nice leader. Not going to do an extensive analysis right now, but it's enough to say that we got an uber trait + a decent one and that people will think twice before trying to rush us.
And more than slavery, BTS is about sandboxes. Mali has a lot of sand, so we have a head start in this department.

I agree, northern scout is better.
I really hope we can found somewhere without popping that hut, so we have a chance of a free tech!
BW first seems mighty tempting...

I'd say yes. Another possibility: move the scout onto the gold hill, to see whether there's any seafood lurking just offshore. I'd hate to settle in such a way that we end up blocking a potential fishing village.
On BtS noobishness: I think we should use one of Ilios's reserved posts to summarize the starting techs, UUs, and UBs of our opponents. I remember some of the units and buildings, but I'm drawing mostly blanks. And I'm completely clueless on starting techs.
