Astronaut without sin confounds press, invites trio to control civilization

We had amassed a reasonable army for our forthcoming endeavours, although some remaining stranded on distant islands, listening desperately to the radio to hear news of their loved ones. A message went out to them: "Some use you lot are".

But you've already heard about our troop numbers. Ad nauseum, probably.

So as I had simmed, cannons would get 63.7% odds, and this probability would rise the more we bombarded the hell out of the mega stack, rising I think to the late 80's. Here's the first shot, the brave cannon surviving his first tilt at glory. May he live long.

Fast forward 17 cannon attacks on maximum barrage and quite a bit of damage had been done, more so than in my sim. I was happy. And 12 of the cannons had survived.

Cannons 12, Stack 5. Home win. (Ok, that doesn't quite work 'cos I had achieved no kills, but never mind that.)

Here's the shell-shocked troops. Ok, not shells. Hmm, maybe shells. Projectiles anyway. Projectile-shocked troops. Cannon fodder.

We had done particular damage to mackoti's knights, which were the most promoted I think, so must have taken the brunt of the action. (Do only units of the same nation get collateral damage in any one attack? One suspects so.)

Is that cannon promoted with Accuracy?

Pikes were the obvious next choice. Knights were still leading defenders by far, and our Combat II pikes got generous odds.

The odds were mostly better than that too, apart from an unpromoted pike. We got broadly as we deserved:

Pikes 11. Shell-shocked stack 0. Home win.

Next up, musket-time. Some of the knights had pinch promotions and weren't so badly injured that they didn't cause some problems. At 71% odds, we won two battles and lost one.

But that opened up the non-pinch units for some gunpowder action.

I deliberately left as many of the muskets as I could on the east side of the mega stack, so as not to be in range of the pinch knights 1E of the dye. The pikes I left 1N of the stack as protection.

I was soon all out of muskets and down to maces. Here's what's left at this point.

There was a bit of uncertainty in the score (too tired to count), but this was what the announcer muttered on the wireless.

Muskets 21, Knock-kneed knights 5. Home win.

Probably a little bit unlucky to lose 5 based on the odds, but not far off.

Eagle-eyed as ever. I had saved before the big attack and noticed my misclick when I checked the odds. All those squares and circles look confusing.

The maces had very nice odds, improving up to 99.5% at some points (taking out horse archers annoyingly) and I got a fantastic run.

Maces 21, Previously impervious stack of doom 0. Home win.

I also sent in two spears but they both died attacking impis at 83% odds.

Spears 0, Stupid impis 2. Away win.

This is what was left of the invasion party.

You can also see what I had left 1N of the stack as extra defence. There was a similar number of units 1E.

See!

Then there was a pleasant discovery. We had four maces 1NW of Ganymede. They took out a chariot and three knights. Woo me.

Oh and I sent an axe in before the spears. It won.

So we killed 11 + 21 + 21 + 1 + 4 = 58 units, leaving 21 beleaguered units.

That adds up. And we lost 5 + 5 + 2 = 12 units. I'll take those odds.

Demos after.

Our power: 1620k->1515k (down 105k)
Rival power: 756k->623.5k (down 132.5k, so 530k in total).
