Astronaut without sin confounds press, invites trio to control civilization

Thanks Rowain.

Ok, I've had a look around the save.

Power update, for fun:

Our power: 1,620k->1,515k->1,606k (net, down 14k)
Rival power: 756k->623.5k->608.25k (net, down 627k)

Given that Sian's and Yuri's power graphs have stayed broadly stable, that's a lot of losses mackoti and Luddicator have taken.

Individual power (T117->T118->T120):

Us: 1,336k->1,480k->1,606k
Mackoti: 1,123k->1,159k->1,024k
Luddicator: 1,054k->1,104k->652k (approx - ouch!)
Yuri: 500k->500k->550k (approx)
Sian: 207k->216k->207k

Very satisfying to see them turn and run. The loss of an island city doesn't really bother me too much.

Could get some Barrage III cannons going.

Or CR3, that would be a beating.

From the combat log, the surviving knight aboard the galley or galleon has only 8HP left. Our musket nearly took out two knights. There's probably another knight or mace on there that is full strength, as I think you mentioned.

Unfortunately, we don't have a pike that can attack, but we do have a combat II musket. We can maybe send in the rookie musket first, then mop up with the combat II musket and leave that and the mace there to cover for any further amphibious assault.

We can't hook up the gold this turn but can do it next turn.

We can attack the last three rogue knights with healthy pikes (one is 2E, one in Titan, and one from the three in Ganymede, then leave a couple of healthy pikes and any healthy muskets or maces on the square where the knights were, thus avoiding a counter attack from either the mace or the retreated mackoti knights. (I doubt he will but no point in taking chances.)

We could triple whip the university in Callisto since there are two unhappy citizens - it can go on max growth to get back its population for when the gold is back online.

Are we going to let the university complete in Europa, just to get it out of the build queue? It will only take three turns.

Yeah, I was actually thinking of adding experience to our existing cannons to tip them over into a thrid promotion, but settling two more GGs in Ganymede is not a bad option.

Here's the story of the inter-turn:

[Image: Civ4ScreenShot1521.JPG]

For our turn, I took out the three knights in our land, then went for the 50/50 vs mackoti's mace, lost, cleared it up and covered the units on the square where the knights previously stood. We had plenty of healthy units to do so thanks to further reinforcements from boats.

I also took out the knight on South Island, at the cost of a musket.

Here's the log.

[Image: Civ4ScreenShot1522.JPG]

I sent the settler to South Island - it can resettle Charon next turn.

I left frigates blocking the path to Iapetus, but of sight of the galley and galleon, and a frigate the other side should mean that at least one of those boats won't survive.

I made a medic III war chariot with one of the GGs. Two are heading to join the remaining GG on the mainland, as well as more reinforcements from north island.

There was a first sighting of a Ship of the Line in Pharsalos. Our counter will be... well, just lots and lots of frigates.

Nice. So what's the plan now that the homeland is safe?

Probably nothing fancy. Heal up, and move a big-ass stack next to Pharsalos. He can't flank our cannons and they're also immune to collateral from catapults.

We can fort through to the lake next to Pharsalos to land on a hill, but we're a bit short on Galleons currently, so if the straightforward approach seems promising I think we'll try that.

Can't sleep, grrr.

We'll probably have to do a round of Wealth builds when we invade Greece because it's going to be quite expensive and we're losing money hand over fist as it is.

Our stack should be upward of 100 units, including loads of cannons.

Had a peek at the save, Mackoti's navy has advanced, but otherwise not much news.

He has a decent stack of boats, but the SOTLs are out of range of the tile 1SW of Callisto. I guess the SOTLs could have double promo capability? We could hide our boat stack and heavily defend Callisto for the time being, although that would give up that crucial square. Given the coastal bonus, it's hard to take such tiles back, especially with SOTLs.

So maybe we should hold firm.
