Could someone please pause the game? I couldn't connect last night or this morning, and don't think I will be able to play before the turn flips. Thanks.

So I'm still not able to log in to the game at all. I'll try reinstalling civ later today, and see if that fixes it. But it's possible I might need a replacement.
in the mean time it still says I'm logged in so I'm not sure anyone else will be able to log in, grrrr.

Chapter Four of Verizon: A Cautionary Tale -
As you may have noticed my recent internet uptime has not been stellar. In fact, in the past two weeks I've had to hard-reset my Optical Network Terminal (ONT) a total of seven times, with a pair of outages less than 10 minutes apart. Initial phone technical support wasn't helpful ("Lets reset that router." -> "Let's reset that ONT.") as often happens when the problem is both fixable and reoccurring, hence each phone rep thinking they'd solved the problem. I finally got a tech who made a note in the file that if the problem happened again he'd dispatch someone, and that someone was supposed to arrive yesterday. The time ticket window they gave was pretty narrow, just 8:00am-9:00pm (sic). The phone guy did tell me though he would have them call+text me with 30 minutes notice so I didn't have to stay home all day. I asked if more notice was possible, and he said I would get a call an hour out and he had noted as such in the file. Yesterday at work I got a text at 3:06pm saying a tech was on the way. Nineteen minutes later a new text came in saying the ticket was cancelled since I wasn't home. I immediately called the national number (there's no way to just call a local office for support, much less the field tech) and after initially chiding me for not being home during my time ticket the new phone agent did attempt to call the field tech and get him to try again. No dice. We were rescheduled for today, and this tech did show up more or less on time (time ticket as reported to me via phone was "before 5:00pm" although the auto-text still said "before 9:00pm") though I still didn't get my hour notice. This tech was both courteous and competent on-site as most have tended to be. He wanted to do a hard reset of my router (clearing all my port settings) which my wife (I was away working) talked him out of, but when the exact circumstances of the problem were explained to him he opened up the ONT, removed a "shield" that he says some installers leave on the fiber cable but that can create issues especially in winter, re-installed and tightened up the cable, installed a new splitter, and gave me a newer model router to swap out later if I wanted to. Knock-on-wood we should be back online and chapter five in this sad saga should be far on the horizon. Fingers crossed... |
