Probably not a great idea; Sunrise looks he's off to a good start, and he's a strong player with a good civ and early war oriented leader. If we're going to beat him, it's more likely to be in the mid to late game than now when his traits favor him.
Maybe we should be looking to farm our floodplains for now? Sacrilege, I know, but we are really hurting for food.
Ilios Wrote:Re the metagame, would be possible/sensible to make a beeline for Biology?
Biology is so deep into the tech tree that the game will probably be decided by then, I think... We'll just have to deal with what we have.

So, is the warior alive?
...
Gah, I can't look...
He actually survived! Let's see if my next message can fool the ones who read past the spoiler tag!
This will be a major setback for our team, since it means we will have to delay the second city by a lot...
Ok, so after my little joke, we can keep going with the report. After the warrior killed the lions, I moved the settler in a way that he could settle next turn. It was a risky move, since the warrior was already damaged, but we couldn't afford losing time.
Luckily, we weren't attacked in the interturn, so that meant settling the city of GAO! (yes, with the exclamation dot). I realized that the second Mali city is actually Djenne, not Gao, but the latter sounded better as a provocative remark.
The worker is finishing a road for the TRs (which I think we'll have). Later, he'll probably farm one of the floodplains. The work boat will be whipped into the Great Wall, once we hook up stone. He will explore a bit and come back to net the fish, once borders have been popped.
The other warrior kept his exploration and finally found some food... Oh boy, that's far. Anyway, a city 1N of the corn could get gold and block that choke point made by the mountains. But again, it's far...
I marked pindicator's progress with signs (his starting position, pindicator 0, is in the black), and also marked the tiles he revealed for us.
I also proposed what seems like the best and fairest placement of cities in the jungle between us and Sunrise. If he agrees, we should mark those cities.
DaveV Wrote:You get the spot 1S of pindicator's scout in his first screenshot; we get the one 98 of his scout's position in the second. These cities have zero overlap, and are equally distant from our captials by my count. Your city has better resources, but even dry rice and sugar look good to us at this point.
sunrise089 Wrote:Mali, sorry I've been slow to respond, but thanks for sharing your proposed settling plan for that river valley.
I'm OK with your proposed city and also OK with the resources and tiles you agreed to cede to Egyptian control. I may not plant on the exact tile you recommended though, but I also won't plant for overlap with your city.
Does that sound reasonable?
Here's the territory under discussion (red dot is my suggested city spot for us, yellow for sunrise):
The problem with that river is lack of food, which makes it way below in priorities...
In better news, there's an axeman exploring that region. He killed 2 panthers for 2xp and no damage. I'll wait to see if we can kill some more. A woodsman II axeman could be... interesting to say the least...
By the way, we lost our exploring warrior to a barb at 2,x% odds...
I think we should go either for Myst or Writing now. After that Mathematics, most likely...
