We can't even try thundergobos because it looks like we're going to lose before that happens... I'll try when i wake up for a clearer mind, around 12 hours from now. Any suggestions will be welcome.

If I left us in such a bad situation maybe we should try again with purple recruiting bats and wolf riders instead of gobos which just disapear in fights
Yeah, we could start over the whole map. I was the one who recruited all the basic spear carrier gobbos. Looks like that isn't going to work. But I don't really see much that will work. The scenario is very, very heavily stacked against us. If the saurians had about half as many troops as they do, we might have a chance.
No pictures, because i was quite on edge throughout the whole thing, trying my hardest to salvage it.
Haphazard: your surprise. It's salvaged. I lost a ton of level 0 goblins, but i got the two wolf riders upgraded (to knigts, we can't afford pillagers). We're playing a fighting retreat, but there are 2 villages behind for us to heal up, and one in front (where we're fighting). Staying there is probably the best option. Watch out for the augur with 10 more xp to leveling up, i want to avoid that if possible. Purple: This is the trouble spot actually. However, goblins instantly recover to full hp + move again once they turn into thundergobos. See those 3 spearmen running to the wagon like they're on fire? Get them there asap before they die.
Anything even close to salvaging this one is outstanding work, Amelia!
That is good to know about converting to thundergobbos. I will do my best to get them there alive.
Urgh. I tried myself to play this to completion. I did.... losing both dwarves, everyone else on Misris's side, and a great wolf (not to mention every level 0/1 goblin). The only things left on the map were two wolf knights, a great wolf, eeep, misris and a bat.
And yes, erm, sorry, Erigor the loyal rouser is already dead =( No possible way to save him (he had 10 xp left to next level, but too little life to do anything about it).
Fortunately I managed to do a bit better than that. Map finished, took me two extra turns but all saurians other than the leader were dead after my third turn and they had negative gold so I went ahead and finished it.
It was close in several spots, and we did lose a bunch more gobbos and a couple of the converted thundergobbos. And Misris almost died, as the saurians moved before me on the first turn and surrounded her. Had to sacrifice a couple gobbos to save her but we got lucky on a couple battles and she escaped to reach a village and heal. All our wolves and wolf-riders survived, as did both dwarves. The key to victory was Eeep. I got him a kill and promoted him to Goblin Cutthroat, which has the really nifty rampage trait. Any time you kill an enemy with him, he gets all his movement back and can attack again. Combine that with a strong fire melee attack (bonus damage against saurians) and Eeep killed 5 saurians on my second turn, wiping out essentially their entire eastern force single-handedly. I also managed to promote our remaining bat to Dread Bat. A couple of thundergobbos got some XP but still have a ways to go. There was some dialogue at the end of the map, indicating that there must be some reason for so many saurians to be showing up. Nice to know I wasn't imagining their overwhelming numbers. Misris and Eeep are worried about Clammie and plan to search for him. Our next scenario is back to Clammie and his saurian augur companion. We get a lot of dialogue as they meet up with Francois, who is planning to attack the Duke (or whatever his name is). Francois has hired an explosives expert, and Clammie claims to be this expert (a Mr Blydd). The duke and Francois insult one another a bit, and the duke explains he is very disappointed in his assassin. The real Mr Blydd shows up at this point and is accused of being the assassin, and Francois' guards kill him. Clammie is told to place the bomb next to the duke's keep, and our first objective is to get Clammie to the keep -- there is a signpost on the target tile. I assume other objectives will happen at that point. We have a ton of gold -- over 1000 -- and nothing to spend it on. Lots of villages on this map, maybe grab a few as we move our units to the duke's keep? Anyway, I am including the scenario start save so you can enjoy the dialogue, fairly amusing stuff. Oh that was the key point. I promoted him to firebrand, and well, it didn't do much. Cutthroat was really the better choice, but i was hesitating due to a lack of ranged attack.

I had to really think about the promotion choice, as I did not like losing all ranged attack for Eeep. But I decided I had to have the attack power of the rampage trait. It isn't great for the development of other troops, as Eeep is getting all the kills. But with night bonus for chaotic plus fire bonus against saurians, he was doing 4 attacks for 10 damage. I used other units to damage the various saurians, as augurs only have 22 HP and the skirmishers only 28 (or was it 29?). So a little prep by the other units and then Eeep just needed 2 out of 4 hits for each kill and was able to eliminate unit after unit in one burst. I was surprised at just how powerful it was, actually. |
