So here I am in the second round, in the game where I'm probably the favourite. Win, and I'm almost guaranteed to advance (in fact, if Mackoti wins as well, we're both 100% guaranteed to advance). Lose, and I'll have a very difficult challenge between myself and play-off, a must-win match against Mackoti
Before the first match, I said that 2-movers were going to be important in these games. In fact, they're
extremely important. Even without all the usual tactical considerations: the map is 32 tiles long, 1-movers simply cannot reach the opponent fast enough
After realising this, I re-thought my Civ choices. As the aggressive choice, I will now play
Boudica of Zulu rather than of Rome. Praetorians are great and all, but they're countered by mass Axemen, and a competent opponent will surely build mass Axemen in 20 turns Praets need to get to their territory (20 turns assuming most of the way is roaded!). They're not unviable by any means, far from that, but I think flexibility of Impis is better. Especially with Zulu having at least some kind of economic benefit (Ikhandas) after the initial onslaught, if the opponent is still alive
As for the combo against Catwalk, I initially planned Julius Caesar of HRE, but decided that an OP UU is better than an OP UB
Unless I change my mind in the next few hours, I will send
Julius Caesar of Byzantium as the choice for this match
