RBP7 [SPOILERS] - The Chronicles of Nyania

Lord Parkin Wrote:Question to the lurkers: Does anyone remember the rules about when barbarian animals disappear? Is it a fixed turn, or do they hang around on the map until they're killed? I seem to recall a fixed turn, but I'm not sure. Would be good to know. smile

I seem to recall a fixed turn, or maybe a 5-turn window. I don't remember what influenced the actual turn number.

I guess that's not very helpful...
I have to run.

lol

Not exactly. wink

Seems we have the same hunch though. Hopefully someone else can remember off-hand, or knows where to look in the code for it. smile

The animals definitely despawn, which is when the human barbs show up on the scene. You'll never see animals side-by-side with barb archers, e.g.

I believe it's tied to the average number of cities of all of the civilizations. I think it's when the average is 3 the animals hand things over to the human barbs, and when it's 4 they start to enter your territory? Or maybe it's 2/3 or 2/4. I have no idea how dead civs or razed/captured cities factor into it.

There's a guide on Civ Fanatics that explains it, but a a quick google failed to find it. If you look you might be able to, though.

Yeah, that twigs a memory. I think the last time we saw a barbarian animal was about T42, and we saw a barbarian Warrior on T54. So I take it that regardless of the tipping point, all the animals will have despawned by now since we've seen barb humanoids?

Probably... though sometimes you'll see warriors from huts hanging around with the animals still around. Usually those are promoted, though. smile

Fair point. So would still be good to know the exact number... if it's an average of 2 cities per player, or even 3, then we might have passed the point of animal despawning already.

So... we won the 88.9% battle against the Spearman with the first Chariot. What do you know. lol

Renamed TT's former capital to "Pwnage" to reflect this glorious battle. tongue

We're actually quite rich at the moment, thanks to 100+ gold from capturing those two cities of TT's. Should be at roughly ~40-50% breakeven once we found our fifth city, I think. Things will be better once the new Gold is being worked.

We're also only 5 XP away from our first Great General! Hopefully we'll be able to manage to get him by finishing off TT's last city and remaining units. If not... well, we know where we can snipe a few more. wink

City placement decision coming up: do we found the Wheat-Gold city on the tile 1E of the Gold or 2E? Advantages of 1E are that we get the Gold without a border expansion (~9-10 turns of the extra commerce or ~80-90 beakers), plus we get an extra flood plain. Advantages of 2E are that we can found the city a turn earlier, and we get the Marble in the BFC.

I'm leaning towards founding 1E myself, but feel free to argue one way or the other.

You also get an extra riverside grassland from the 1E placement, although you're probably going to settle a filler city there somewhere. But another 1E advantage is that you settle on a non-riverside desert hill, which is a pretty bad tile, and leave a grassland open.

Two extra riverside grasslands actually... plus a grassland hill that we wouldn't otherwise get. And yeah, settling on an otherwise poor tile - not to mention gaining a free +25% defensive bonus - seems like a good idea. So 1E of the Gold seems like a pretty solid plan.

I think you have analysed the situation correctly. Go ahead and settle where you think is best.

And glad we kept the capital. This game just got a whole lot better for us. :D
