[SPOILERS - PBEM29] spacetyrantxenu - Mao of Babylon

Oh, and then there's this:

Boldly to Sian via email Wrote:Sian--

Apologies, but Xenu has informed me that we had a no-scouting agreement in place with our open borders. He just informed me of this as I was messaging him as I played the current turn. I did not know of this agreement and did not have a chance to speak to him about the game this weekend while he was out of town. My scout, Steve Innskeep, is currently 2N, 1E of Victoria, and has scouted that northern coast. In addition, I sent a chariot in from the south, currently 1N of Ragnar.

The only way I can see to rectify this is to withdraw our request that you not scout our land, so please feel free to do so.

Boldly

I didn't coordinate the hand off very well when Boldly took over turn playing for the weekend. The intent of the agreement was to keep Sian from mapping out our cities in case of invasion, or seeing our defensive positions, etc. But we get the same information about him so it's a wash anyway. But I didn't intend for us to break the agreement, I just never passed the information along to Boldly. Lately he's been more active in our diplomatic efforts but he didn't get CC'ed on this email.

I lol'ed about 4 times in that report. Particularly the un-subtle settler name!

Each city produces a maintenace cost with 2 decimal points. All cities sum together to a total what is then rounded down to the nearest integer. Incidentally, this also works with commerce values.

Example: 2 cities each producing 7.5 beakers will total to 15. However 3 cities each producing 3.33 will sum to 9.

I'd be completely shocked if any new citizen increases maint by more than 2c. Even on 25g, where maintenance was artificially brutal, citizens didn't cost that much. Nice job on the CS calculation! thumbsup

One suggestion, Number One, if you play the next turn please rename that settler from "Snipe Cat Dyes (Settler)". That might give away the plan....rolleye

I left that as an in-game note for you to follow. That's what happens with two turn players. Kitties haven't been doing a good job of keeping an eye on our lands, so I thought it was pretty safe. I was going to rename it this turn, but by EoT it will be where it will found anyway. :neenernee

Thanks for the info, Ceil. I've always wondered about the half beakers/city maintenance costs, etc. that you see in cities all over the place but it never occurred to me to test it out. That seems like a sensible implementation, because otherwise you would truncate and burn off a lot of commerce -- which would feel like punishment to players and would probably lead to painful micro to avoid the commerce loss. I can imagine how frustrating it would be to feel compelled to swap city tiles constantly to achieve a commerce result just over the next integer threshold. banghead

Speaking of keeping an eye on other peoples' lands, we should probably run a chariot through Dazed's and Slowwalk's lands since we haven't done that lately. We can afford the unit supply costs now that we aren't as broke as we used to be. Maybe wait to move them forward until the turn of anarchy so we get one free turn of unit maintenance.

More likely is that we'd need to build a little military. We're running pretty light these days. Once the chariot in Team Kitty's land is done running interference for any settlers headed toward our poaching grounds lolhe can turn keep going and see how many farms they've laid down.

If we razed the pyramids, they'd be ruined until Constitution. Just saying. shhh

Also, glad to know about the empire-wide rounding. I assume this would work the same for commerce/beakers? I saw a lot of .5, .25, .8 (etc) numbers in the beakers column and would assume they'd be in the commerce column as well, after markets and such are in. This would be a micro nightmare and would make me poke my eyes out. cry

And, @Ceiliazul, glad you enjoyed my shady unit name. :neenernee

Considering he already answered that point, I find your lack of attention to detail concerning, Number One. No holodeck vacations for you for a week. Argue and I'll cut your rations as well.

If you want this campaign to last until the convention, you better play nice. I'll go Newt on you and explode this entire Republican field. You may wake up one day to find your poor, dumb Republican candidates replaced by only-marginally-better Democrats. Tread lightly, Mao. jive

Thanks for pointing out my oversight, though.

Actually if we start losing cities in a future war I wouldn't be surprised to see the attacker rename our cities for Democrat presidents. It would be the ultimate insult! However, you should be careful about threatening Mao. His kill streak is quite impressive. More than a killtacular. More than you can handle bash

Also, it's Super Tuesday. We should get an in game bonus for having 10 Republican primaries today. Maybe a celebration in every city. No city maintenance everywhere for one turn would be awesome. nod

I'll play the turn tonight whenever it comes in, but if you're around we can look at it together. Sian still has it for now.
