So I sent out a few units to harrass Mongolia, and noticed there were only 2 Archers guarding the area - with a Worker under one.
I figured if Azz engaged, it'd be a likely 2:1 kill ratio for us, or at worst a 1:1. If we engaged, I was considering throwing the Chariots to kill the Archer and kill his Worker on the hill. If we got lucky with the first Chariot, we could even keep the Worker.
When I moved 1SW before attacking the hill though, I saw something else. You're not going to believe it... it's another CIV101 moment.
Um... yeah. Needless to say, the undefended (?!?!) Settler died. (How many different players are going to leave critical things completely undefended in this game? I believe so far it's been at least three and counting...
)
After taking the Settler, the Chariot found himself surrounded by 3 Archers - so I deleted the Worker to prevent any recouping of losses. Negative 100 hammers to Mongolia... again.
...Or not quite. One slightly bitter aftertaste was that in his counterattack, Azz lucked out in killing that Chariot at 26.7% odds... which would have given his lucky Archer a disgusting 5 XP. Oh well, at least he already had a Combat promotion on that Archer, so it should have only gained one promotion and won't be able to go CG2. Still, sucks a bit.
In brighter news, we were fortunate enough to gain some XP of our own in a few lucky battles. I went in for the 50/50 with Azz's Chariot because we couldn't really lose either way: it'd be a 1 for 1 or it'd be a 1 for 0... free XP for us regardless.
As it turned out, our first Chariot retreated, but did enough damage for the second one to finish it off. So we got one Chariot from 4 -> 5 XP, and the other from 9 -> 11 XP. Two new promotions... not bad for a day's work.
So yeah, an eventful turn. A net loss of 130 hammers for Mongolia, and 30 hammers for Nyania. And another lesson - perhaps - learned.
